Huge Lag/Frame Rate Spikes

Been playing for a couple of days now on an older computer with absolutely no issues with lag or frame rate (I honestly can't tell which one is going on). But yesterday, my household invested in a newer laptop - switching with the old one. Now, whenever I'm playing, I get huge spikes of unplayable lag, or frame rate spikes, whenever I attack (be it with a spell or melee, doesn't matter) or move into an undiscovered portion of the map. I'm running on the lowest possible graphics settings with an ATI Radeon HD 3200. I was having such fun with Path of Exile, and all I want to do is play in on my new laptop.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why I can't run this game?
I'll bump this as long as I have to!
to put it simply, you have an amd card.
Is there anyway I can fix this?
get a new card?

seriously...half the performance problems posted on the forums are from those that have a very large misconception on what an old gfx card can do.
I begin to think that some see the game and go durr it's d2 and think they can play it on a toaster.

if you still want to try playing as you are just now about the only thing you can do is make sure the card is dust free and change the texture settings lower than medium which you can do by modifying the production_Config.ini which should be located C:\Users\*****\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile

the texture quality should be sitting at one when you open the ini , it can be set all the way to 7

Actually, there are just as many reports from those with more powerful cards - 7800/7900/660 etc. - as there are those with older cards. Whilst it's true that using an older card may exacerbate the problems, it's not the sole reason.

To the OP, as you're playing on a laptop, make sure the vents are clear of dust and make sure the temperatures are not over the top.

that is why i said half the problems.
i'm well aware of others with newer cards having a problem and those with nvidia cards having similar issues...i use a HD6670(not even what is considered a gaming card) and i have not noticed much of a problem with it...even when testing with the fps and latency display up and seeing that the fps could drop quite a bit with graphically intense stuff like LA, GMP and chain it was never bad enough to say it was unplayable like others make out...just some noticeable fps drop which given the card is understandable.

I really don't think it's the chipset in my laptop. I run D3 and WoW on pretty high settings with absolutely no problem with frame rates. From what I've read in other threads, people all over are having problems with AMD/ATI cards - no matter how new and powerful they are.

However I will try the take the resolution lower than medium.

the difference there is that blizzard are a massive company...they not only have the money but the man power to optimize games enough to run on an older system, and with the likes of WoW the frame rates are more dependent on your cpu that the gpu.
Even then you would have seen big drops in frame rate if you ever played winters grasp at its launch or even back in tbc on the isle of quel'danas when the gear vendor opened.
