Lets discuss how easy it is to RMT in Path of Exile

I can also tell you that a lot of RMTers (Note: not companies, coz a lot of players actually sells orbs) play regularly as normal users, and use normal account names.

Is it really possible to get that rich just from trading???

I don't doubt it, especially if someone witty
made use of the new league starts and flipped currency most the time.

We are talking about trading as a gaming-style here.
There are enough people playing the game mainly for the pleasure that trading gives them.

I really doubt that private sellers are causing the real damage in relation to RMT companies.
However this is speculation as our knowledge of GGG's methods to limit RMT is.

Nice list, OP. Let's see what happens with it.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Easily, in pretty much any game there will be people who have wealth way in excess of what your average player would consider possible, you just need a hell of a lot of time and the knowledge of how to accumulate it. I've done it myself in other games and got accused of botting / exploiting / buying gold etc. pretty much every day but know that wasn't the case.

To spend, what... six? Nine years of your life developing a game, with clearly designed rules that a subset of the world choose to defy and actively work against? If Chris gets a bit angry at times because of RMT, that's fine. This is not your typical censored game forum where everything said by an employee is filtered through a wall of PR representatives and worthless community managers trying to justify their paycheck. When you see Chris post an announcement, he pretties it up, because that stuff is going on the front page. See him post anywhere else, and he's still really nice - it's just way less formal.

As far as stopping RMT, whatever you think they may or may not be doing, they can never talk about everything publicly. As Chris said - they adapt. Putting their tactics in writing just speeds that up. Of course bots and RMT are going to happen, but it happens a lot less than it would if they did nothing about it.

Think of it like a filthy, filthy wall. You see this wall, it's horrible and you don't want to touch it. So GGG clean the wall. They wipe it and spray it with chemicals and do their best to get the stains and dirt out. They're never going to get every spot, but when all you see is a wall that's fairly clean but still has some dirt on it, you don't call it a clean wall. You call it a filthy wall. And the filth just keeps appearing. So they clean it, but they can never get all the spots out. And they keep trying - and that's great.
IRON MAN
I'm just curious. Would you guys consider it p2w or RMT if I bought an account from a friend? Or let's consider he just gave it to me. How would that be?

RMT means Real Money Trading, so if you are trading, and real money is involved, it's RMT by definition.

I assume by RMT he also means cross game trading and all the stuff that goes with it, which doesn't necessarily involve "real money" but is still against the rules.

There is nothing to stop you giving stuff away for free, it's something people do frequently.

I know what RMT means. I just have a hard time understanding, why RMT is such a bad thing.

The things I see about RMT which is undesired is:

1. Spam bots
2. Farming bot (that makes the economy unstable)

If the spam bots wasn't there I would not be annoyed by it. The farming bots will lower the RMT prices so much that it actually makes sense for many people to invest money in it (which I think is undesired ofc).

But if the bots were killed off, then it would not destroy my experience with the game. I don't have a problem if a person decides to sit down and grind the game for countless hours to be able to sell gear - I do however have a problem if that gear has been obtained through botting.

Without the bots I don't see how this will affect me at all. I know I'm pretty much alone on that opinion :P And no, I never use RMT my self.

Imagine you're first on the ladder, when both you and the guy in 2nd run out of maps. Irl, he has money and you don't. How do you think the rest of the story goes?

My personal opinion is that p2w is only a problem if you actually win, otherwise it's just p2l and doesn't really harm anyone. But at the end of the day, GGG have their rules, they seem mostly reasonable, so I wouldn't get into that part of it too much.
