culling strike mechanism
so there are two ways culling strike could work.
#1 the creature is below 10% life , you hit for less than what it would take to reduce life to 0 and they die, e.g. They are at 9% life , you do 1% damage - > they die. #2 you do enough damage to take them below 10% life with one hit, and they die. They are at 40% life, you do 35% life damage -> they die. I am fairly certain that #1 is the correct interpretation, and yet I've seen many posts that imply #2 is the operation. Assuming that #1 is the actual method, it's only effective if you are doing < 10% of life damage per hit. So it's really at it's most effective against tough bosses where 10% of life is larger thann the damage you are doing and could potentially mean you could kill the critter with 2 or 3 less strikes. Against creatures where the damage you deal is > 10% of life it would be of no help at all. I did notice that the culling gem does apply extra damage but reduces attack/cast speed. It's not really obvious why you would want to use it, other than as a cull to apply one member of the parties iir/iiq numbers. Is that about right ? |

I suspect #2 might be the case, otherwise it would only be useful on skills that hit hella fast for hella little damage or for fighting bosses (well, if you can take the boss below 10% life you can kill it normally too).
Best to try it, get a weapon with a tight damage range and find a mob type you can't kill in one hit no matter what so even on lucky damage rolls it has a bit of health left, then slap on culling and see if it drops dead in one hit. I'd try it but I'm at work until evening. If it does I guess the description should say 'if the hit drops target's health below 10%, it is struck dead'. That would also explain culling strike on that 2H axe, no point in that if it works as in #1 description. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Culling Strike means that every time you hit an enemy, if that enemy is then less than 10% of it's maximum life (after the damage of that hit), it's killed.

" Yes, makes much sense. But the gem description is very misleading, most people I saw talking about culling effect are firmly convinced the enemy must already be below 10% life when hit. See? "Kills Enemies on 10% Life or less when hit by supported Skills" Wiki is no better "If an enemy on 10% life or less is hit by a skill with Culling Strike, they will be instantly slain" Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs. ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux]► ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1]► Последняя редакция: raics#7540. " wow! absolutely, my impression from scouring the posts about culling strike is that most people believe the creature had to be belew 10% already. going to have to give it another try and see what it does for me. thank you for the clarification. |
