So regardless if there is a recipe or not it wont increase the value of the "Dusk and Dawn". I Have allready killed Atziri once. I got realy lucky without knowing it and found midnight as my first fragment. And what excited me for some hours was how epic this boss fight was (It truly is). And it should be realy realy hard to get there. If you can do a recipe with the other fragments to get the rare fragments it wont be hard to get there at all. I honestly dont see the point of creating a system like this, instead of just making it alot harder to find all 4 of the fragments. That would be alot more rewarding for all players. Orb of Chance works on fragments. It doesn't do anything, but the orb is consumed upon use.

I just tried putting a fragment into a machine with a white map, give 5% more item drop

The fact that Vaal Artifacts cannot drop in maps in any way, yet are so extremely rare (for a set of 4) makes them useless.
Fail game design by GGG, in my opinion. Seems balanced more around the idea of "first 50 people to do this get a mtx" than anything else. Arbitrary difficulty for arbitrary difficulty's sake. No point for endgame characters to seek out the new end game content. Opportunity cost trade off from not being able to play maps is too high. The more I learn about this patch, the less impressed I am with it. And that bar wasn't set very high to begin with.
