My favorite metal song of all time. X-Japan's Art of Life.
Can be considered the eastern Stairway to Heaven in terms of icon, influence, and innovation, Art of Life is a 28 minute song (34 minutes live) with an eleven minute piano solo. I discovered j-rock way back in high school when it was at its peak, and fell in love. It's incredibly personal to me. It's a song that starts out talking about despair, but it's not until the very end of the song that you realize it's about... well, the art that is life.
