Anyone know the name of the device for maps?

I'm trying to figure out the name of the device that spins when you start a map.

I think it's just called Map Device. It's current incarnation reminds me a bit of the Alethiometer from the His Dark Materials trilogy.

It is or was called the reverie device. If you are talking about the spinning thing, then yes it is a gyroscope.
