PoE reddit hits a new low
" The US government had the means, motive, and history of doing nasty things. Does GGG have the time/effort, reason, and track record of screwing you? Maybe they are playing the slow game...winning all of our trust...then to do what with this treasure trove of information? |

" Well... they've made one game, and the leads history before that is reportedly rather shady... so not really a lot of 'track record' to go off of. There are plenty of ways to make money if you have managed to compromise a large number of systems... seriously, I'm not going to bother to list the ways. That should just be common sense in this day and age. But really, I wasn't trying to make an equivalency between GGG and the US gov't. Just saying skepticism is healthy. And yeah, who knows, maybe if PoE goes under, suddenly a bunch of ID and CC fraud seems to start mysteriously targeting former PoE players. Anonymous trust is a silly thing. No. Calm down. " The lead dev used to RMT according to some. You are building a bridge much farther than I am. We have seen the code. We know what it does. If they release a patch that tries anything nefarious, we'll know in 24 hours. Then we'll all be pissed, and they'll go to jail. If you like the game, play it. Don't sweat the small stuff. That's all I have to say on this matter. I think I am being pretty reasonable. |

" Because of unnecessary skepticism germany doesnt have proper google street view. :/ |

" I guess some people want their house to be visible to strangers a half world away, while others don't. Crazy world. No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

" We've sniffed the code, but I wasn't aware that the source was open. You sure about that? EDIT: and just to be clear, I'm not really sweating it, and I don't think GGG is going to fuck everyone over. What I sweat more is that "What you got to hide?" attitude on display. That shit's dangerous :P No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing. Последняя редакция: b15h09#7812. Время: 14 янв. 2015 г., 16:49:32

^this should be viewed in the context that RMT in that day and age was not all that frowned upon btw.
(or so i have heard) Not like it is today at least. So at the time he would be just another bloke doing his business, no harm done imo. While in the current light he would be frowned upon. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I'm interested to see how the request for QoL suggestions plays out in reality. My cynical side, given I spend all my time writing exactly such statements, makes me strongly suspicious that Chris saying 'the solution may not be turning off particle effects' is simply said to get people accustomed to accepting that the solution won't actually be much of a solution.
This is a test for Chris and his team - it's time for them to decide if the integrity of their vision of the game is more important than being responsive to a player base that went to the extent of ripping apart and redoing parts of his game to improve the experience. There's many good examples of player mods being accepted and supported by developers to the benefit of all, but I can't think of many beneficial examples of the opposite. I find all the 'git gud' 'game is working as intended' discussion of PoV pretty frustrating. Sure, you can argue that ranged players don't really need to see things because they get the lovely benefit of killing things offscreen anyway. The argument completely falls down when you're playing a melee character that is being attacked by frogs and exiles *before they can see anything is even occurring*. It's a truism that if you can see me, I can see you, unless there's some lore I've missed about how all exiles have bad eyesight? |

not really as off topic as it might seem...
but does anyone know if blizzard ever did deal with the 'multi-shot + lightning enchanted' bug in d2? that was the very reason almost everyone i knew in diablo 2 hardcore picked up a similar 3rd party program... blizzard refused or ignored an feature of their game that they admitted was bugged... and that it was unfairly making players die.... but in the years that i played d2 they never did fix that mod combo on rare-mobs, and everyone had an alert system in place to not only protect us from players who were using drop hacks to kill our characters, but also inform us of when those bugged mobs were nearby so that we didn't 1 shout ourselves on something that attacked with completely invisible 1 shot mechanics. point is, it's within human nature to adapt by whatever means necessary just to survive... some of that translates to this game, as it did d2... now i can't speak for standard league and i don't even understand the mentality of people who play those leagues anymore... they obviously have less of a reason or need to defend themselves from a RIP via 3rd party software when years of pleading at the devs has been met by pandering and silence. so did they ever fix that MSlightning enchanted combo in d2? because their refusal to make that a priority is ultimately what lost thousands of people their accounts and items when the trojans were let loose in the toolkits that were used to address the issue that blizzard had acknowledged and then just fobbed off... not to put the company in league with the hackers/code-rewriters but they did work towards the same end, not as conspirators but blizzard created the need and the need was met.... and then it was exploited and the 3rd party writers took everyone's loot and sold it on ebay. moral of the story? there are gameplay issues that destroy the game that haven't been addressed other than being acknowledged, in 2 years... and they breed the need for many people to use these toolkits to simply survive... history repeats itself unless those who make it learn from the mistakes of those who went before them |

" After hearing the game may have been funded by the D2 dupe economy, I dug up some of CW's old diablo usenet posts (maybe a different CW participating in the D2 usenet with a .nz address, admittedly). Didn't really find anything that would be considered damning. He did seem to be quite well placed in the D2 scene though, hinting at close connections to both hack program devs and Blizzard devs. He mentioned knowledge of private dupe methods (though I couldn't say whether that was from maybe doing some beta testing for Blizzard, or from his connections to the hack/dupe scene). My takeaway was that he was probably well positioned to participate in the dupe economy. Whether he did or not, I have no idea. No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
