When will POE update its graphics engine?
" Of course they do. But that isn't enough for some players. They want GGG, a relatively small studio from the far side of the world, making a relatively small game with relatively few players, to jump over to Unreal Engine in a matter of days. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I like PoE overall art direction and the current graphics. Particle effects are very good and environments are usually good too. Models in many cases could be better but still they are ok. Overall, after 4 years, PoE is still one of the best (if not the best) looking isometric ARPG.
ARPGS is a genre where graphics are important but gameplay is much more important. Diablo 2 is still played after 17 years... even WoW is more than 10 years old and still alive. This means that as long as they keep updating and refreshing the game PoE has still a long life ahead. Sure at some point they will need to move on. But current PoE is so big in terms of assets... items, mobs, enviroments etc... reworking all of them in a new engine would be a massive, unrealistic amount of work. It would be better for them to start from scratch with a completely new game: fewer content (at least at release)... new and better engine, but won't happen for at least a few more years. I would rather they expand more options on the graphic settings.
1. Like ability to turn off the following:- Water Details Shadow Lighting 2. add Texture with "Lower" selection. 3. And include more graphic setting options. These would let user pin-point their "own set of problem" and temp. fix it till GGG can improve them. Without more graphical options, each person are just guessing based on their own sets of ideal graphic settings of acceptance. Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles. " This would be nice. But people have been asking this for five years or so, and only response was it would break the immersion or something, I dont know. We can dream. |

and would it not?
new player here, i'm running PoE on AMD A8-7600, integrated graphics, and in 1280x960 i'm getting 40-60fps even in intense battles, with antialiasing off, shadows set to low, everything else maxed, dynamic resolution disabled. so while i saw many complaints regarding the performance, i simply don't get it where do they come from, since the game is really well optimized, imho. 1280x1024 monitor, so there's no point for more. also, newer APU like A12 would easily run it at 1080p, perhaps with even higher settings. not everyone needs 2k or 4k.
and in the end, that's on integrated graphics. anything decent should be able to run this game, especially on low settings, and while i understand that some people simply don't have a decent PC - not so long ago i had a pretty old one myself - i simply see no point in lowering the minimum requirements by making even lower settings available, when it's perfectly playable on high settings on integrated graphics. if someone has a decent PC and performance problems in PoE, it suggests that PoE has a problem with that particular config for whatever reason, and in such case it should be addressed - but lowering the settings just isn't the way to go, it's masking the potential problem instead of solving it. |

" Im also running this game with a dinosaur computer. It run's at 60fps 1080p on high/DX11. There is some fps drop with massive mob density but that's about it. This game is very well optimized, i guess no one here know what a bad optimized game/ engine is. Lot's of complain come from people that can't keep a computer "clean" for more that 1 month. Running 6 useless program in the taskbar, an intrusive anti-virus with 50 more useless resources hog function. At least 10 chrome extension, outdated drivers, or installed drivers via nvidia/ati auto update... Well i can keep going for 3 hours. So yeah im not surprised when i see topics about ppl with crazy computer that can't run this game properly, when a toaster can. Последняя редакция: kulgeen#1878. Время: 29 нояб. 2017 г., 21:34:53

" Your highest lvl char is 27. If you have 40fps now, at 87 you'll have 4. |

" There is a part of truth in what you said, a lot of users are lacking a lot of knowledges when it come to keep their system safe and stable. However GGG stated countless time they were working on perf improvements and they do. There is a reason behind that. The game is not that stable. It is way more than few years ago but still under what most of experienced studios can produce. Because others studios think about performances first before releasing content, wich is a thing GGG havn't been able to do in the past ( Hello CoC ) or at least without thinking about all possible issues before pushing new content. ( Have to consider they hadn't the same budget and experience to do it right too ). That beeing said PoE is an hassle, interactions between different skills and support gems make it really hard to keep everything safe and clean. Last point is GGG decided to go with their own engine, built from scratch as far as i know and i respect that; to make it clear i clearly don't think they expected PoE to go THAT far when they started. There are pro and cons to go this way. The con here is this engine had some huge issue from the begin, they built over these issues then started to clean them a while ago but it's still a custom engine and even if GGG's team is awesome it can't really replace a public Engine that has been worked for years and has been under thousands and thousands of users feedbacks from many different products behind to improve it. Performances arn't that horrible in " most cases " if and only if you play solo or in 3 mans party, once you are going over that and depending wich skills and effects you use it can be another story. Granted it's still acceptable in 80% of cases. I'm running PoE with an high end CPU and high end video card, in fact everything is high end most of new games run with max settings without much troubles but i keep getting issues with PoE ( in full party mostly and again depending of skills and effects used by others members ). In my opinion, there is a lot of work left to make performances issues a thing from the past but i'm more optimistic than before. More employees, i think they have some better routines than before aswell and are more organized when pushing some content and this is kinda amazing when you consider where the game come from. ( this is not a rant just wanted to enlighten you a bit more regarding performances issues feedbacks, to point it wasn't always that simple, i'm sure you understand my point ) Helio Hf :) Последняя редакция: Heli0nix#0378.
