Season One, Race Event 21: One Week Party

If you don't like the rewards, don't play. Play the hour races that are STILL GOING ON ANYWAY. There's no issue here. It's the first week race of open beta with probably more people entering than ever before. Let them calibrate the points/prizes a few times before you get all butt hurt about it not being worth your time.

PS no one ever mentions FUN being a reason to play, instead of arbitrary numbers on profiles. Bragging rights are just as good as points to me.

In response to above, I care because when a game developer starts catering to the demands of the "fair" and "easy for all" soap boxers the game quality suffers. If you need rewards for playing a game(or competing), then you're doing it wrong.

I didn't see anybody here who made that argument. If they did, that is a poor one. Stating the fact that you do not have the time to compete for the top prizes is not the same thing as saying it is unfair that other people do.

Some people want the CB rewards, where currency is directly provided to you. Others want the one week rewards to be in line with the other race rewards. Again, wanting either of these is not the same thing as only participating for prizes. You must realize this, but you seem to generalize and constantly ignore this fact.

Seeking improvement in how something is set up is not the same thing as only playing for rewards.

We all know that we're not getting Demigod's if we don't put the time and effort in. Nobody is complaining about this. People just want to get something small for participating, something which already exists in the shorter races. For some reason that has been removed from this longer race, and people are wondering why.

If you don't mind the rewards, and do not think that the way they are set up could be improved upon, then why do you speak--other than just to have something to complain about?

Not many people here are asking for the game to be easier. They aren't saying that it's unfair. They want incentive to enter races, and again, this does not mean that it would be the only reason for them to enter races. Stop shitting on other perspectives. They won't make the game easier, so stop worrying.

These race rewards are so horrible that it is ridiculous. In a 1 week race, I may have a decent chance of getting into the 201-500 tier, a small chance of getting into the 51-200 tier and an extremely low chance of getting any higher. So that leaves me getting 0, 2 or 5 points. I can get more expected points out of a 1 hour race than this 1 week race.

What the &%^*# do you guys think you're doing with the point rewards? Its bad enough that the points suck for the 3/4 hour races compared to the shorter ones, now this. If you really want to make people pissed off about the stupidity of your race rewards, you've managed to do it again.

I'm really starting to dislike this game because of this type of BS.

You guys obviously have hired a retard without any math ability to make these rewards, because a simple time invest / reward would tell you the rewards are completely stupid. Please fire the person you currently have doing this and hire someone who can at least multiply and divide, or use a calculator to do it. I'm not saying you have to make rewards equal to time invested, but it should be roughly proportional at least. Ie, a longer race gives you a greater expected point reward, not LESS.

I'm not saying that they should bring currency rewards back but atleast give everyone something to look forward even by playing couple hours a day!

The level of competition on short races has already dropped so much. Participant has dropped from 4000+ to a mere 1000 players.
Even top players said they find this awful. So why would anyone bother to do it ?

Except the fact this is a game and ppl like to have fun and often in games fun = rewards for an effort; that's how other races work (and worked for the whole closed beta), there's always prizes just for the effort of leveling AND prizes for the top placements. Except this race.
They're not asking to make the game easier nor having 60 points like the top placements, they're asking for a valid reason to join this race.
Otherwise with no rewards for the average player why even trying to race? The whole event will fail within a couple months leaving ~200 people or less who care about races.

I didn't say I was entitled to anything. All I was saying is this lacks the excitement that the CB week races had for myself a casual.

I agree that people who play more and practice deserve the spoils.

I may very well make a character in this race, just to compete. But it wont feel like it did in CB when I knew I was never going to compete with the players who play 18 hours a day, but I had set a goal of level 60, for the phat currency lootz. It was exciting.

2 reward points for a level 50, 3 or 4 for a level 60 (i'm guessing ofcourse)

It's not like olympic athletes get a special bonus for winning events, or clearing milestones. There's an overwhelming amount of "me" and child like behavior demonstrated about what people feel they deserve to be compensated in order to "spend" their time competing.

So in the "real world" people race for absolutely NO tangible incentives ? What you should admit to is that rewards DRIVE competition.. if the rewards are complete garbage like they are now,, that will directly reduce the competition; in effect it will have a negative impact on the integrity of the race.

Just because you know you cant get anywhere near top 10, doesnt mean you should project your opinion on to others and call them kids/having entitlement issues; because rewards FUEL peoples incentives to COMPETE their heart out.. like it or not, just like in the REAL world.

Good points made here already (on both sides of the argument, TBH, name-calling notwithstanding), and it is VERY strange that GGG hasn't responded yet, with the race about to start in 2 days. I'm just a noob here, but it does seem that without some response to "corral the morale", then you risk alienating both the noobs AND the vets, a bit. And isn't the point of these seasons to generate MORE interest in the game?

Anyway, with the way things are going, maybe we DON'T have to spend countless hours in a 1-week race? With only 500 people entering, just show up to get at least 2 RP. And in that circumstance, not only do you lose the momentum of interest in the game, but the "bragging rights" get de-valued too. Just sayin'.

I could say more on the subject, but I'm not here to write a book. :) I just think the confusion/unrest could be mitigated before it goes much further.

im sure chris will post something soon , they prolly are making new rewards. i think 95% of posts here said it needs reworking.
