If we gave large reward points prizes for getting to certain levels then all players who are competing in Season One would feel compelled to get to that level in the one week race for the sake of getting those prizes. It would mean that people's hard work getting to the skill level required to win decent point rewards from the shorter races would be invalidated by slow and steady participation in this league (a week is plenty of time to get to level 60 or whatever the tier would be).

If we gave out small rewards points prizes for specific levels then people would complain that getting to level 60 is too much work for say two points (compared to the shorter duration races). Our goal is not to make people play in a one week event for the sake of it. They should play because they're going to have fun or because they think they can do it better than other players.

The goal of the one week race is to:
a) Provide a place where people who want a fresh league/economy for a week can play. These people don't necessarily care about the season reward points.
b) Provide a way for racers to show their mastery of longer duration events. They have to make tough choices about how much of that one week event they want to give up for smaller events that may win them more (or less, upon death) prizes.

There will be other one week events in the future with much more generous prize structures. That's not appropriate for this particular slot in Season One though.

We are listening hard to the feedback and making changes (for example moving the event times around to be better for Americans and adding one-point thresholds for the shorter races). I'm sorry that we're holding our ground with this race, but we do feel it's going to be a fun event and an important (but not overwhelming) contributor to the results of Season One.

I wish more people would actually read this post before complaining. Rewards are just that REWARDS. If you don't like the prizes for a race then goto another race. There actually are other races. Like people have said. It is more worth while for them to go play a bunch of small races. Then great go do that if that makes you happier.
Stop complaining about bonuses, GGG is not obligated to get everyone the coral ring or any of the prizes. If you race and get the points you get it, if not then you don't. They aren't giveaways so please stop acting like they are.
Just upset that I read through more than 10 pages of people complaining when many of them already said themselves their solution. If you want to do many small ones instead of a big race go do it.

I did read it and said that's the wrong direction in my opinion. I suggested another method and well... My idea pretty much goes along with what 95% of the thread is saying.
I don't understand how they can compare this to diablo 3...

Most marathons I have seen have no rewards of any kind and you still have to pay to participate so I don't know what people are complaining about on that note. And again, if you want a reward for leveling play in the other races. Ok you don't have 1 week of time to race ... soooo play in the shorter races that give you points for leveling. There are 11 other races Mon-Sat and you are complaining.

Maybe we're not looking at the same races? :)

(that's a link to medallions finishers received for half marathons, marathons and Ultra Marathon Races).

The point is, the Dev team can set rewards however they want, but it's not uncommon to give some sort of reward for a significant accomplishment.
Guys this race is really fun, I participated and I was doing really good. If the game didn't crash and get me killed at lvl 34(last night) I would be in the top 100 right now easy.

Thats the ONLY problem.

I mean... the only reason I participated in this race was to prove that melee can be viable, and it was fun. And I get shot down by game crash. Its such a discouragement. I want to rejoin the race and try to make it up to the top but why should I when I will most likely get a game crash half way there?

Very bad desync in sewer with alchemists everywhere... should have altf4.

Well, it was really fun anyway, died at the 17th spot(lvl53) which is an achievement of some sort.

I know others have said this already, but I was very disappointed in the reward structure. I only have play time available to put in a few hours a night and I was looking forward to trying to get to level 60+ during the week and earning a few points toward the goal for the season. The timing of the other races is terrible for me, but I try to make them when I can.

The weekly race seemed like a good way for me to finally score some points, but this reward structure is very disappointing. I've been very impressed with GGG so far, so I'm sure you will listen.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks
Are people really that obsessed with the rewards that its still being complained about? Get over it, if the thought of leveling a new character in the one week race sounds boring than dont do it. I don't see why you would want to force yourself to participate just for some extra points. If your more into points than just do the shorter races.

The whole man mode thing is really fun and I think a lot of people are surprised just how fun melee and the challenge in general is. Testing melee like this is very rewarding. I feel like if people just forgot about the rewards for a moment and started a new character that they normally wouldn't have and test their ability to stay alive they'd forget all about the points.

Just died because the servers are shit. Oh well, was a lot of fun until that point. Was trying the manmode challenge with a staff templar and went quite well. Brutus was warping all around his room and I got blapped. Not too bothereed about missing out on the 2 or 5 points I'd likely have won. Hopefully GGG hires someone good to do their netcode better.
