Season One, Race Event 21: One Week Party

Here's a thought:

You don't need points to make participating in races fun.

gasp!

There is a lot of bitching and moaning in here that reminds me far too much of the D3 forums.

If the time investment doesn't make sense to you for your perceived 'reward' of playing in the race then don't play in the race.

Coming home and playing for a few hours in the evening for a week should never end up with anything resembling a top level reward in this game. And this is coming from someone who is never going to see a top level reward in this game. God knows the gaming industry is flooded with games that give excessive rewards just for turning them on; we don't need PoE being another of them.

Much like in real life, just showing up and 'trying' doesn't mean you get a trophy.
tl;dr If your playing the week long for points and glory your doing it wrong.

So much hate for such a simple thing.

They (GGG) can't go giving a ton for points out for the week long as it would break the concept of point based rewards.

Look at it as a better drop rate, week long opportunity to make new and shiny characters.

If you don't want to race in a week long, then don't, just chill mode with a new build you want to try without any twinking and play as per HC normal.

The races are (imo) about encouraging new build play and getting people to play new characters.

Its a nice attempt to keep things fresh between content updates whilst also rewarding players.
All my life i wanted to be someone, now i know i should have been more specific.
I think the developers need to see their responsibility by creating races like this.

The race encourages unhealthy behaviour by having people try to spend as much time as possible playing to achieve the top rankings. This can only be achieved by spending insane amounts of time into the game or sharing one account between several players (cheating).

So I suggest you would limit the time played per day to like 12 hours, so people can sleep everyday and not race 40 hours in a row.

I know peoples arguments against this ("freedom"), but this does not negatively affect anybody and will eventually just help people not to seriously damage themself (children that have to go to school, people with health issues - that are just addicted to the game and all other people that will be negatively influenced by this - family members etc.)

12 hours a day times 7 = 84 hours, so this should be way more than enough!
Was doing the SMASH challenge and died to leap slam desync, stupid a$$ bug... but oh well, shiz happens, I did get this though! :)

Won't be using it, but it's still on one of my race characters if anyone wants to pay a pretty penny for it, haha...

@Ragezilla (in game, will be back later today after some meetings)

hmm i am around place 1300, i think i could pull lvl 40 with my "playtime" available. Doesn't look like i will get to top 500 :(

Dont even bother, the amount of time you would need to invest just to make top 500 an get 2 RP is laughable and silly. My favourite part is someone will place 21st, and for their investment of 100-120+ hours will get 10 RP hahah

well i use this race to start character i wanted to start for previous week. However for speedracing my 2H Duelist was not optimal choice, cause i am slow player :)

So now i will just hope for 1 point to get to top 500

I love the concept behind this, to the people complaining that the rewards are too little, just don't do it. As far as I've seen from your profiles it's not like any of you are at the top of the ladder anyways.

If you enjoy doing these things play it and have fun, if not don't do it. Reward points in a game aren't something you should be doing math on time invested vs. reward points gained. Do races because you like racing not because you want some shitty remodeled item.

Just my opinion, I hope to take part in one of these in the future :)

I am surprised more people aren't getting this.

PoE has many different kinds of races.

I did a 1 hour party race that gave me 5 points.

I'm doing this race and I EXPECT to get 0 points.

Both of these are fine.

Not all races serve the same purpose.

Point Blank:

1 week races are prestige / esteem races.

This is all about crushing your competition and the rewards reflect that.

To the victor goes the spoils.

If you want reward points play a shorter race.

If you want to be able to say "man I didn't sleep more than 4 hours a night, but damn did my name look good in the top 100" then the 1 week format is where you need to be.

Not everything in life is about "points."
No incentives for #501 and below eh. Screw this race.
wts ele hit,

pm offers c/o 2 chaos

wheres the 1week trade forum :/
they who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety

My only complaint is I have no idea what level top 500 will be. No idea how much time it would take to determine whether its worth trying or not. Sure we will have a baseline after this event, but this one, who knows.

But yeah, I agree, aside from that.
