Reddit vs Official Forums
" I have never browsed Warframe subreddit, did not have the chance to invest myself in that game deep enough. I'm mostly talking about Official & Steam forums. Uploaded an awesome Exsanguinate Freeze Explosion build on the forums - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3508506

" Wait, I thought that was me? Huh, you sure seem to think a lot of people have it in for you. :P If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" That seems a strange shifting of the goal-posts given the thread topic title, dude. :P I didn't think steam forums were even a factor in this discussion. I'm hardly that invested, hence I 'browse'. I play it enough to be interested in whatever's going on, but I give zero shits about the game's balance, the current memes or any social drama. I'm just noting I don't see much friction when I browse that subreddit, but a LOT of helpful, informed posting, and a quiet pride that the community is a civil one. That's worth being quietly proud of, I think. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" You may as well remove Steam from that list, the idea that I was trying to deliver is that the same magic is happening in Warframe Official forums, as we do in PoE subreddit. " Ugh, how confusing. But this can be brought back to relevance: I consider myself uninvested so I browse the third party warframe reddit casually. To look at the official forum would be deepen that engagement in my mind, to directly expose myself to the game's core community. Maybe that's another reason people will use the Poe subreddit rather than here. There is definitely a detached, non-committal feeling to reddit vs official fora. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Speaking as a community member:
These days, I'm pretty much only interested in posting to either location to answer questions. Everyone agrees that reddit is shit for having a discussion because of its format, but honestly I don't find forums that much better. IM servers have always been my preferred channel to actually discuss something in any level of detail, so I stick to Discord for that. Would recommend, especially if you stay out of #general. Speaking as a reddit mod: " PM me details of the ban? That doesn't sound good. As for the rule enforcement, we try to stick to the letter of the rules but don't necessarily succeed. If you have any specific concerns, tell me? " We certainly aren't doing that. If anything we're actually too lenient on controversial posts to try and avoid this exact accusation. Tons of people report posts that bash GGG or state an unpopular opinion, and I can guarantee that we approve the vast majority of them. Ones we remove are removed for breaking rules, not for their stance. Speaking as a user again: Reddit kind of naturally creates echo chambers, because the voting system basically reinforces the majority view. I don't much like the general subreddit community vibe either, but frankly I think the solution is more moderation, not less. We don't do that because we actively want to be a lowest common denominator sub that accurately reflects the community (within reason), but I often daydream of making a splinter with very strict moderation, trying to make an actually good community. Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

" I would propose a different perspective. People use Reddit because that's what people are used with and judge the game on. I have exclusively used Reddit for gaming communities and updates for all other games. I started seeking other sources once the bitching became unbearable and completely void of reality. I have spoken with people who have quit the game because they have invested themselves in the "community" and left disappointed. Their definition of "community" has unfortunately been the PoE subreddit, not the actual core community - forums and in game global chats. I do understand your idea very well tho. "REddit defends Streamers and Forums defends donators And i defend facts ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

Sorry, Viperesque, but no. I'm not getting involved with that one. It's been a pretty public conflict and has bled into this place more than once. The end result is one less headache for the subreddit and that is that. Frankly I've been wary of the subreddit's moderation ever since ZiggyD stepped down. That was a huge red flag for me, given the sort of amicable image that guy tries to project (and I don't think that much of it is fake or forced). Also, as with here, there are many ways to...dance around the moderation to make someone on the subreddit feel victimised and dogpiled. The only difference is people get paid here to be impartial and just react.
What we have now naturally has its own problems, the biggest being moderation that is robotic and resistant to personal engagement on a case-by-case level. We've gone from having a neighbourhood watch who occasionally got too rough on antisocial elements but engaged with and cared about their local community (and thus came very close to vigilantism) to security cameras everywhere equipped with tasers manned by detached, low pay shift workers who just wait for flashing red lights triggered by concerned community members (reports). Despite my involvement with the former, I think the latter is overall much better. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
