Reddit vs Official Forums
Reddit is designed to be an echo chamber, not a place to exchange ideas. Which is fine, sometimes you just want to check up on the latest popular stuff without wading through all sorts of weird shit. I just prefer the discussions.

I tend to use both, but post more often on the official forums.
I don't tend to have much to say, I don't think I've created more than 10 threads here and the majority of those are probably bug report or suggestions. Haven't had any issues with moderation, I think I've had one post here deleted, (and if I can recall, it deserved to be) but nothing on the subreddit. I've made one or two comments on the Steam forum as well, but Steam just has one Path of Exile forum for everything related to it and they haven't made any real improvements to their community side since... ever? " I believe I gave quite a good solution already. I mentioned that I personally already have 10+ warnings on the forums but obviously I have no ill intentions towards anyone, I just express myself often in a quite vulgar fashion. This is mostly allowed or overlooked in game, a bit less in forums and absolutely forbidden in Reddit. You can now safely assume that people attacking ideas might come off initially angry - it is the strongest emotions after all. If you simply warn these users with 1 blanket empty message and then ban them, you simply erased another possible active user who could have been a good or interesting community member without him or her having the chance to adapt to the environment. Again, we can take me as an example - 5 warnings on the 1st day, around 5 more in 2 weeks and now close to none in a week. I have to repeat myself that this is purely theorycrafting based on the fact that I see close to nobody telling others on Reddit to "git gud" or "stop whining" when that's the majority of the responses in official forum threads on topics that are mostly bitched about. " Unless reddit takes down the sub for """hate speech""" it's really not on them but the owner/moderators. Total free speech like you see on anonymous imageboards is not really navigable for laymen. At first glance everything is alien, offensive, possibly offtopic offensive and trollish. But it's the only platform/system that allows you to dig through 99% of the shit to find discourse impossible to find anywhere else. It's as much a skill being able to read them as it is being able to thrive in this games trading system for instance. Which is why so many people want an AH.

after thinking about it twice: i think it's a economical and legal choice to split the community.
new zealand law has some idiotic penalties for companies allowing online bullying to people. i dunno if 2015, when they introduced it, falls in the time bex made her tabula rasa entry as community manager here and massively drove people to reddit and even to new external forums. but it would make sense that it was in reaction of the passing of the law. the consequences: the company has to take personal control over their own forums, cheap community moderation is out of the question. and having the community centered in their own forums cost them alot of money: for one cause the 1980's design can only handle a limited amount of posters and rework is costly, same as moderating a forum with hundreds of posts per minute. they already have to watch those pupescenting youngsters in global chat. ----- and charan, you can hurt certain people the most by criticising their work. ask chris, he has a healthy attitude regarding this topic and ever defended his employees arts and design decisions explicitely because of this. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
