Thoughts on bits of lore, story and characters
" Thank you for saying so, but I really wish I could have been the first to tell the world how the Ranger bats for home team. " Dominus discovered the rapture device, which Malachai made for Voll. All we know is that he told Voll it would cleanse all Thaumaturgy from the world, but I think it's safe to say Malachai was up to something. Not sure why the Rapture device didn't cause a second cataclysm for Dominus, maybe it would have if a random exile hadn't been there to stop it. I'm not even going to try to figure out the Scion. I couldn't make any sense of anything she had to say. More random for the topic: - Gravicius, apart from being both sexist and racist, is kind of a one note character. Could use more history. - Class specific dialogs I can think of: Everybody with Nessa and Bestel in act 1, Witch with Grigor, and Marauder with Maramoa from act 3. I was disappointed that I didn't find any more class specific quips as I began to play other classes. Shadow in particular seemed like he'd have good opportunities for that. |

Maybe this could appease CharanJaydemyr tiredness of LOVECRAFTIAN lore/vibe/inspiration.
In a Song of Ice and Fire, more commonly know as Game of Thrones, behind all the political stuff, war & backstabbing, there is 2 "entities" fighting each other, they're actually playing a major role, yet they are vaguely present in the story (well, looks like they're going to gain more protagonism later). PoE could go a bit this way, that "other dimension/reality" could be set as a background thingie until the very end, when at the very last moment, our hero(es) fight the true truest menace (Cthulhuuuuuuuuu wannabe) before walking of to the sunset, roll credits (totally not cliché), or our heroes could go D2 style, going insane and being bosses in PoE 2! Wait, I think something went wrong in my 2 cents theory... I guess we'll have to wait for the next act for more lore bits. Последняя редакция: Yoomazir#7573. Время: 6 дек. 2013 г., 03:29:15

Fun fact: If you talk to Grigor at a certain point in the story line he talks about piety's experiments and basically confirms what everyone pretty much already knows if they've ever done merciless Lunaris Floor 2\ Colonnade - Kole is in fact a rapist.

I honestly just wish there was more info on Dominus. I think he's a really cool boss mechanically\visually and his voice acting was pretty cool imo, but he's pretty much done now(his mutated turkey form w/ his mask on is dead at the top of the sceptre of god on 3 difficulties!) and I'm guessing there won't be any more lore on him.
I personally enjoy the mystery surrounding the story and am fine with GGG slowly unveiling more as time goes on in clues throughout the game and in npc dialogue, but I feel like there were definitely some wasted opportunities with Piety\Gravicious\Dominus. |

" Basically you're saying "leave it to the player imagination", kinda like Dark Souls, right? I'm cool with that, but I think GGG is going the other direction, Siosa & 2nd appearance of Fairgraves (both of them also having a look more... cartoony?) kinda shows it. " I hope the PoE purists won't crucify me but I always thought after watching some artworks, like that huge tower, that PoE franchise needs a 3rd person view, open world game with a gameplay similar to Dark Souls/Sword of Darkness, hell I can already visualize my maraudeur roaming across that devastasted landscape waving his giant club at the nearest squeleton... I'm doing Library runs to read all the books for the no Stone Unturned achievement ATM, and there's some interesting stuff in those books. I'll just write down what I found out yesterday, feel free to comment in any way.
- The Vaal were the first to use Virtue gems, which are also referred to as Tears of the Maji. - An otherwise inconspicuous Vaal citizen named Zerphi turned out to be an infamous serial killer. Over the 170 years of his life, he tortured and killed 13 other Vaal citizens, all gemlings, all 20 years of age. When he was finally discovered dead, he had the appearance of a 20-year-old. My theory: by torturing and mutilating the gemlings, he could somehow infuse their gems with a power that granted him not eternal, but greatly prolonged youth. - Atziri, Queen of the Vaal and obsessed with eternal life, tasked the thaumaturgist Doryani to find out what Zerphi knew and to replicate it. - A mysterious event only referred to as the fall killed millions of Vaal, only 3,000 or so remained and found refuge in the Azmerian empire, which then settled in the now empty Vaal empire and founded the Eternal Empire. - My theory: If Zerphi was able to prolong his life and stay young for a very long time, maybe this happened more often? Maligaro said the Baleful Gem was his salvation, and he would join Fidelitas. Join him in what? In immortality? Maybe Maligaro stayed young forever and came back as Malachai, Or maybe even Maligaro was just a new identity for Atziri or Doryani? Maybe this person also took over Dialla in some way? That would fit well with my theory of Dialla as the Act 4 boss... ;-) A sword he brought, his foes to maim and rend,
from places dark behind forbidden doors, But night by night he woke with frighten'd roars from darkest dreams, too strange to comprehend. (Anonymous) |

i found a book in library talks about vaal/azmeri rebellion. after the rebellion all thaumaturgy was banned and related items destroyed. but tears of the maji is not destroyed because is was to too dangerous. they keep the them in highgate( where the gems were mined in the time of eternal empire)and sealed it.
i am really confused about this story ! Please RNG give me a fishing rod !

" Thanks for mentioning it, I had completely forgotten about that fact! I'm not sure if the Azmeri rebelled against the Vaal or if they simply took over their orphaned lands after the Fall. There seemed to be hardly any true Vaal left,e xcept for mutants and constructs. And indeed, the gems were buried in Highgate, where the Eternals then mined them and where Voll, Dialla, malachai and maybe even Kaom went around the time of the Cataclysm or Twist. I hope Act 4 will play there and feature some of them as bosses or NPCs ;-) BTW, as that book is called Imperialus Conceptus; assume that#s what IC in the exile letter date stands for. As most of the bear the date IC 1599, I assume the Vaal disappeared some 1500 years ago. A sword he brought, his foes to maim and rend,
from places dark behind forbidden doors, But night by night he woke with frighten'd roars from darkest dreams, too strange to comprehend. (Anonymous) |
