1.3 [Newbie Friendly] GROUNDSLAMMER BUILD

Concentrated effect is a multiplier of whole Aoe damage.
At level 20 it has 69% more of all area damage.

5L no CE: dps =x
6L added CE: dps = 1,69*x

There is no greater boost for AoE damage.
But it has a big drawback: 30% decreased AoE

IMO GS+CE only works very good with Marohi Erqi.
With any other weapon AoE is to small what force you to a very close combat.
If you are tanky enough to deal with it- go on!

In my case:


4L (GS + more physical damage + faster attack + multistrike) = 8266
5L (GS + more physical damage + faster attack + multistrike + CE) = 13940
6L (GS + more physical damage + faster attack + multistrike + CE + added fire) = 19435

with Hatered Aura:
6L (GS + more physical damage + faster attack + multistrike + CE + added fire) = 24517

All gems lvl 19-20, quality 20%.

I use Vurnerability Curse so Physical is multiplied by ~1,38.
So dps on cursed enemy is about ~29800

Extra Gore is just more guts, blood from atacked monsters. It is only an visual effect.

It's fun, but if your PC is already runing game slow, it may make it much worse!!

I bought these to use for my build once I get to that level. Will they suffice?

Guys, I have run into a brick wall near the end of Act 3 Merciless. In the Imperial Gardens I die a lot to those Avian Wretches. Then in the Library I died to a mob of large Skeletons and elites. I have died 10 times tonight in the Gardens, Hedge Maze and Library. It is getting frustrating. I am ok in places like Ebony Barracks but the Gardens is a pain. I have looked for a new weapon with greater DPS, but they are way overpriced. Especially when I have only ever found about 6 or 8 Chaos. I just bought the armor I am wearing for 1C last night but it's not helping much. I know my life is low, but my life leech and regen is also too low. Please give any advice you can in gear to look for or points to respec.

Besides Tree and Items it would be good to list basic numbers (Life/Real Resistances()/phys dmg % reduction/HS,GS DPS/Leech)

End content is pretty hard, you probably need to grind some levels and do them with some levels advantage. That's what I did at least. So say grind Docks till level 70 (solo or party w/e you prefer) and then grind a couple more levels in Catacombs and then kill and Farm Piety/do level 66-67 Maps/grind Catacombs and ~75 kill Dominus.

Tree swap to this asap. Removed 3 random weak offensive points and put them in strong defensive ones. For the future it's hard to point exactly what route you should go because I don't have your other numbers (resistances,dps etc.) but end goal is reaching something like this at level 80. Main tips are removing almost all elemental resistance points and reaching Amplify on the top and invest on more Armor. After that popular character progress routes are removing Blood Magic to get 1-2 Auras or remove regen points and get Vaal Pact or both (my tree)

Gear wise, 7 chaos are enough to upgrade items. Google poe indexer and learn to use that in order to find upgrades. For example for weapon, there is one with 351 pDPS with 3 chaos buyout right now here. Your primary aim on gear is to have max elemental resistances (75%) and as much Life as possible, do NOT buy gear without Life rolls. Extra stuff like bonus attributes (STR/DEX/INT), Chaos Res, Mov Speed Boots, Attack Speed Gloves, Leech are a bonus. If you don't have the currency to fuse the required 3L or 4L buy items already linked the way you like. Learn to use Vendor Recipes in order to recognise valuable items and gather more currency.

Gem wise there are serious issues. For start focus on three links. First one is 4L for GS. Buy one Multi Strike gem, preferably high level and replace Added Fire Damage and try that. End goal is to remove Leech Gem all together and have only damage support gems so try Added Fire instead of Leech too. Second one is HS, you will need a 4L for that too with same priority Melee Phys/Multi/Added Fire or Leech if you can't sustain your life otherwise. Third core link is CwDT which you don't seem to have understood its mechanics. Read its wiki page. The summary is that the required level of the gems supported by CwdT can not be higher than the required level of CwdT itself. If you are unable to understand it or don't want to bother finding a balance you like, keep CwdT lvl1 and put it in a 4L with lvl 5 Enduring Cry, lvl 5 Enfeeble and lvl 7 Molten Sheel. Aside from that, keep in mind curses have a cap of 1 on monsters so Enfeeble is usually enough, no need for Warlords Mark. Other useful gems are Leap Slam (keep it alone), Immortal Call linked with Increased Duration and a more advanced 4L is high level CwdT with high level Decoy, Molten Shell and maybe Summon Skeletons.

Follow all this advice and let us know how things go.

Blood rage is only viable if you have high chaos resistance (like minimum 40%). I personally had max chaos res when I started using it because I didn't have Carnage Heart. After I got one I kept using it because I could withstand that AND the chaos dot from wearing Death's Oath as chest armor. Since some changes I made to my char I stopped using it because I dropped both on Chaos Res and socket slots. Benefits are 15% attack speed and more Lifesteal. If you are not high on chaos res and generally don't feel comfortable with the constant DoT on you, don't use it.

How do you feel about the changes in the tree ? Hope things are going well. Now your main goal is to Get Amplify and then Discipline&Training and Enforcer. It can take some time because levels come slowly now so when you can afford it remove the STR on the bottom and the life regen per charge to make your way faster. There isn't much you can remove besides those two, only the 4 points I talked about in the 3rd part of the respec as long as you willing to sacrifice 15% melee dmg and 18% All Res.

Tips on how to get decent equiptment easily:


-always check the shops after you level up

-look for stuff with atleast 2+ red sockets(preferably linked, but we can easily link them so its ok if they arent)

-once you have chosen a good piece of equiptment, use an orb of transmutation on it to upgrade it to a magic item(dont worry, orb of trans are easy to get. use them everytime you do this)

-use orb of fusing if you need linked sockets

-if you dont like the bonus stats from orb of trans try using an orb of alteration until you get decent or good modifiers

-you can also use blacksmiths whetstones and armourers scraps to further improve your equiptment but I wouldnt recommended(unless you have tons of wheststones and scraps) it since the extra stats are somewhat negligible

my stats are as follows hp 4107 es 43 fire/cold/lightning/chaos 55/66/42/-23 (i just dropped some resist nodes and changed my gears a bit so i need to readjust a bit for capping) gs is 3527 and hs is 7139

just hoping for some affirmations. next upgrade im working for is carnage heart and i have an alphas howl for when i drop bm and start running auras. thats my plan for after i get the carnage heart. then i think my next step is to 5link my chest and get my mace up to 5socket and 5link. after that i suppose i need to get higher tri elemental gears with more hps on them and get some gloves with atk speed?

Honestly this build is really weak and that really starts to show in act 3 cruel.

Because the damage output is so low life leech doesn't actually function for good survivability. Life gain on hit of course being even worse.

because it's a pure strength build there's no room for auras which actually make a considerable difference in how the character could work with minimal investment in other nodes.

This build is ok if you are fine with absolutely struggling in merciless and getting lit up by trash mobs.

If you don't plan a major change (Vaal Pact and/or Hatred Aura) the most effective way to spend your next points is the 5 point with damage in the start of Marauder like this. It's ~ +13.5% phys damage per point thought until you get Butchery it will only be 10% per point.

Gear wise and gem wise you are pretty good. With 2.5 I'd be looking to replace two items. First, your 400pDPS weapon. You'll need to be on the lookout on shops for a bit but with 1 exa you can get up till ~430pDPS and with 2 exa a bit higher. Secondly the chaos res ring, it has good Life roll but only Chaos and bit of Int and Dex besides. You can find something better. A bigger but harder improvement would be to find a way to a 5L, either buy one or craft. Personally I never bothered and gathered all my currency to buy a BoR and use that for my GS.

If you are looking for a major change I'd advise what I did, Vaal Pact and 1 Hatred Aura. Only need few respec points to remove all regen and Blood Magic like this. Besides that you will need 1% or 2% mana leech to sustain your GS. You can get that as a roll on gloves and rings/amulet. Then you will be able to run Hatred linked with Reduced Mana and all your skills on mana and of course insta life steal through Vaal Pact.
