Bandits and Griefing on Hardcore
This thread...I don't even...
Ok It sucks that people are dicks. People suck sometimes. If you don't know that yet, it's about time you learned. If you had read the dialogue telling you the consequences of a split vote, and you had the aforementioned "people are sometimes dicks" information, it's pretty easy to TP out and drop group. "But I want to group!" you might say. Feel free. PUGs are risky for numerous reasons. Group with friends, or live (and possibly die) with the risks you chose to take. They griefed you and baited you in by mislabeling their public game. That sucks. Horrible behavior and I definitely do not support it in the least. But what if they labeled it "Full Act 3 Clear!" or something similar and then just trained mobs on you? That would also be despicable behavior. But would you be crying for GGG to "fix" that situation too? How would they even do that? Make enemies do 0 damage so you can't get trained on? Again, I am sorry this happened. Very uncool of those players. But I really really hope GGG doesn't cave in to all these petty complaints and turn this game into some fluffy kitty rainbow simulator. Последняя редакция: Kedlize#5590. From the moment you first faced a bandit, you should read what that bandit said. If you skipped everything, INCLUDING THE WARNING TEXT, you deserve what you got.
Its a simple matter of learning by trial and error. You made an error. My errors were different, and who is to say which is worse? You got tricked by players. I got owned by my own mistakes and really nasty enemies (multiple deaths). In the end, I would rather have died your way, having been beaten by a real flesh and blood person, than the pathetic way I did actually die (multiple times). |

I had considered the implications of this whilst playing my default character. I thought the PvP loser would just spawn outside the fight or something but that's actually pretty hilarious.

It amazes me how many people think this is working as intended. I don't play HC yet because I don't trust the server stability, but I can see the OP's point. Some idiot in this thread said you can press escape to cancel...no, you can't. I'm actually at that quest on cruel and just checked. The window stays there making it look like you have to make a choice. Some other buffoon actually used the phrase "working as intended" and then suggested alt+f4 in the same post. Really? You think that it's working as intended and alt+f4 is a reasonable solution? Like it was designed on purpose this way? Then there's the idiots who are parroting this "omgz dnt read the quezt txt omgolo". You think it's good game design to have this decision pop up and even if you DO read the quest text, that a normal good design decision is to either have them run out of the camp (with the decision window remaining despite pressing esc) or to...alt+f4 or port back to town?
Simple solution: a third option along the lines of "decide later" which either ports them to town or allows them to leave the camp or something so that people at least get a more clear picture of the situation instead of being expected to think that the normal thing to do is run out of the camp with the ridiculous quest window open or force close the game. |

" You are simply wrong. The purpose of the group was to kill OAK, which was agreed to in chat and was the name of the party in the first place. It doesn't matter what the dialogue says. You are also wrong about it being easy to TP out. As I mentioned the 2 griefers positioned themselves right next to the public players and waited until the end to vote HELP OAK. Once they clicked that the fight instantly started and we were instantly flagged as a target to them. We all got frozen and killed in short order. There was no time to react, or time to TP. I didn't even realize what had happened until I was already dead. " This is just an absurd statement, and has no correlation to the topic at hand. There's a HUGE difference between being inadvertently flagged for a death match PVP and someone trying to train monsters on you, something I highly doubt is even possible to do effectively. The mere fact you used this as a comparison shows how little you grasp the topic. The game shouldn't be cradling players, but the game shouldn't be encouraging griefing either. This is exactly what this quest does. The only reason to publicly group for this quest is to try and ruin someone's day. Completely pointless and not thought out. Последняя редакция: kuek#5222. " People are dicks man. I know it sucks. They tricked you. That also sucks. I don't condone that behavior. I also don't support people complaining about something simply because they didn't read. It really is easy to TP out. I don't mean during the fight, but before. Once you had read the dialogue and saw that "oh my, I might get pk'd here". Don't make your choice and then TP. TP immediately. It's hardcore. If you're that concerned with the wellbeing of your character, red lights should have been flashing. There really is no difference in my "Act 3 Clear" example and this if you had you read the quest popup. You would have known pvp flagging was possible just like you know people training mobs on you is possible. This quest is not encouraging griefing. It is giving our choices impact. A few bad apples does not mean you need to burn the whole orchard. Последняя редакция: Kedlize#5590. Время: 29 янв. 2013 г., 17:44:38

I'm not sure how many times it's going to take people re-iterating that reading or not reading the quest text has nothing to do with the topic at hand. It has nothing to do with the aforementioned problematic quest design.
Forum posters really will just latch on to anything, regardless of the relevance, so they can to disagree with others. It really is mind boggling, but then again, posting on forums is typically a futile attempt at rationalizing with the irrational to begin with :) Последняя редакция: kuek#5222. Sounds fun - going to make a hardcore char just to try that. This is PoE if you want hugs and carebears go to D3.
May 15th 2012 - The day the king of ARPGs died. January 23rd 2013 - A new king takes the throne.

Having just read through, I found all the "You should have read the text" comments tedious.
As others have mentioned, reading how the quest works has no effect on whether the greifers choose "help". You have no choice but to click help or kill, and whichever you choose, the greifers can still kill you. Once you've clicked on Oak, or anyone in the party has, I think, you're done. The only way to survive this would be to know ahead of time the way it works. I'm fine with the game killing you off for the mistakes you make. Mercilessly. But in this case, the only mistake was not knowing ahead of time that such a preposterous thing was possible. No new player would assume this. At least let players walk away without making a choice. That way, even when there are greifers, players with sense and caution can escape, and watch the more foolish players get killed. |

Sounds like you got tricked, hardcore. That's the way it works in the original mode, and people still get tricked on normal league. The choices are there for a reason so that anyone who was in the group who didn't agree could avoid losing their personal path in the quest. It probably sucks the first time, but you can't get fooled twice, right?
