Bandits and Griefing on Hardcore

When you started this thread I was with you.

The more you have spoken I have began to enjoy the fact that you got gutted by a few assholes.

Getting trolled = gutted? You must be new to the internet. Enjoy your revelry I suppose.

I think making quests, especially those that you're forced to complete if you want to progress (ie. bandits), include elements of deathmatch PvP, is a mistake. Do it right, or don't do it at all.

I firmly believe that dumping the HC char back to vanilla for this is *wrong*...

Any new player encountering this for the first time will be caught off guard because the possibility of being pitched into a duel will only be alerted at a point from which you cannot elect to avoid it.

As to all those delightful "l2p n00b" characters offering up their insightfully counter-productive comments - way to encourage the newcomers, heroes. You're making us proud. Keep it up. :/

You cannot comprehend a basic sentence and then your gonna try and drop a word like revelry arbitrarily?

I was talking about the guys that killed you and got you so worked up you have made a pointless thread and responded to nearly every "sad troll attempt" to the point the thing is 8 pages long....
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.
although i got killed in the exact same way in hardcore, i think it is actually a pretty cool mechanic ESPECIALLY in hardcore.it makes the game even more suspenseful and dark with an element of betrayal. maybe they should have gave a more vivid warning to players but i really look forward to GGG implementing more of these mechanics. to people hating on this mechanic, the player killing mechanic in Diablo 2 was WAY worse than this and it was never removed (a blizzard employee even defended the PK mechanic or "griefing" http://www.diablowiki.net/Player_Kill). hence i urge the people to take the negative comments here with a pinch of salt and respect GGG for implementing bold(albeit controversial) mechanics that seem to work well! Cheers!

Any new player starting straight away on hardcore should be prepared for the game to surprise them and bend them over. Want to know why? Because they don't KNOW what to expect, if you want to learn the game through before risking a death like this on hardcore, no one is stopping you from rolling default first. Most of my friends are doing just that. The issue I have here is the complaints against a mechanic that is described to you before you accept, that gives you the opportunity to back out.

This isn't even a case of the game suddenly surprising you, you get plenty of warning about what is going to happen.

This isn't a faulty mechanic, this guy has even admitted, multiple times, in this thread that he didn't even read the warning that was stuck in the middle of his screen. It's a problem between keyboard and chair, not a problem with a game mechanic.

I agree with the idea that this isn't the intent.

Waiting for people to choose to kill then choosing to help and easily killing the people seems to be an over-sight for hardcore mode.

It's an interesting feature by itself in default league, but joining a game offering to help kill the boss and then killing the people is really just griefing.

Considering that the game deliberately tries to cultivate a lawless and aggressive feeling with just about everything else, I'm pretty sure that is the intent.

Gold? Wraeclast doesn't have a mint. Were starving give us something useful. --> currency items
All players have been thrown out of oriath society. --> Mostly free for all looting.
Templar --> religious fanatic, so crazy he was name a heretic by own order
Witch --> Burnt /Murdered entire village
Shadow --> assassin (murderer) /sadomasochist
Ranger --> poacher /lesbian (in universe "sexual deviant")
Duelist --> Murderer /duels for honor
Marauder --> unhinged tribal murderer
The characters are not nice people and the game does little to force the players to be nice people.

I understand that but this isn't an open world game MMORPG. I don't believe the devs should encourage people to be griefers/trolls/jerks just because the game setting is "Every man for himself".

If this was an open world game where people could be punished by a band of vengeful victims then I'd be all for what you seem to be describing. What we have here is people griefing with no fear of retribution.

It's fantastic if you're aware of it.

It can suck if you walk into it blind for the first time. Especially when it's in a public game and you're being targeted by an established crew who get a kick out of messing with the new arrivals...

This falls squarely within the realm of AP....

<edit>
I'm not saying that this is what happened to the OP... I'm saying that this is the internets where being a rectum to random strangers is the vaudeville equivalent of a drunken hobo stepping on a banana peel. It's 110% guaranteed to happen.

It is not encouraging people, there is no reward...

it is simply allowing them, which is fine..
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.
That's amazing, I love this game... Personally I'd love a "Hostile" button...

Working as intended? I hope so...

Are you kidding me? You think people only grief when there is a tangible reward to encourage them? You really must be new to the internet. Holy smokes...
