I think people are getting away from the point of the first post. The OP specifically said that the party name was KILL OAK, and the party leaders intentionally did the opposite solely for griefing purposes. It has nothing to do about whether anyone reads quest text or not.

Someone lied on the Internet, shame on them and the OP for being naive enough to believe.
There is a warning message that you'll have to fight any party member that does not take your side, it's a fair warning. Wraeclast is an harsh place, backstabbing is the least of its problems. Последняя редакция: Slir#6899. Время: 29 янв. 2013 г., 04:55:18

" While the situation may have been predictable, I agree with those who are asking for this to be "fixed" (if an easy fix is possible). Sadly, some people playing PoE will be assholes, but where such behaviour can be easily contained by game mechanics, then it should be so. |

meh quite simple, just use a portal and run away, leave party

" Rule number one in any situation like this online is that everyone else is an asshole out to ruin your day, just for giggles. If he read the text he would have instantly realized "Oh wait, this is a terrible idea." " You can cancel out of the vote window, the gate doesn't close until the fight starts and the fight wont start if you don't vote. Hit escape, turn around, and walk away. |

Having read all of this thread, I can see two types of people:
- The people who are prioritizing Hardcore's death feature and arguing in favor of a potentially flawed implementation of a game mechanic - People seeing the Bandit Choice as a flawed game mechanic in relation to Hardcore. This is primarily aimed at people who are playing Path of Exile blind in Hardcore, and thus have had no experience with the quests before. People play Hardcore with a couple of things in mind. They enjoy having the challenge of one life, and one life only, to make it big. Most people also know that open world PvP is not a feature of Path of Exile, and will not have to worry about other players killing them- which gives players a layer of security knowing that their character's life it is completely within their own hands. The Bandit Quest, however, is a special case. Because each player can make their own choice, and you must fight the others that didn't side with you, that has bad implications in a Hardcore where your death has consequences. If a game mechanic violates what people know and expect from the game, that has the potential to be a serious problem- hence why this thread exists, because there ARE people who see it as such. It doesn't seem like a big deal to some, sure. But here is the thing: it has the ability to force people into a situation where their character's life isn't within their own power to preserve- which violates one of the expectations a player typically has. That being said, after experiencing this once, one of two things will happen for subsequent bandit runs: 1) You solo the quest to avoid the potential for griefing. 2) You party with only people you know, which is only relevant if you have people that play with you. Both results take away from the game. If you want to make a public party for killing bandits, you should be able to without suffering long-term consequences if other people are griefing. People are stating that it adds flavor to the game. This is true. Wraeclast is a land of thieves, exiles, and cutthroats. However, sometimes flavor must be sacrifices for the sake of gameplay, and I personally believe that the Bandit quest, while flavorful, needs changes for Hardcore to prevent intentional griefing like this from happening for the sake of a more enjoyable game as a whole. I am completely aware that the quest says you will have to fight any party member that chooses the choice opposite yours, and the game shouldn't hold your hand. Those people who are using this point as an argument are missing the point completely. The OP was expecting a party of players that intended to cooperate to kill Oak, and what occurred was the exact opposite and resulted in the loss of his/her Hardcore character. People lying about their intents in a situation that creates situations not present in normal gameplay to harass other players is generally considered an inacceptable activity in most cases, and in Path of Exile it should be no different. |
