My bank contacted me: Credit card info stolen from PoE site
I am posting this as a warning to others and to those at PoE responsible for data security.
My bank contacted me 15 minutes ago by phone to inform me that they believe my credit card information was stolen from the website that processed my information after the last usage of my card, and the bank personell was able to name the nature of that purchase and the site from which the card information was stolen: Path of Exile. Beware. Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion Last bumped27 нояб. 2016 г., 16:03:42

" This is serious allegation. I hope GGG can verify. It will convert your forum titles into decorative square badges that use the space next to your forum posts more economically so that you can show off an unlimited number of them at any one time. - GGG, 2018 (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3573673)

" How exactly did they identify this specific site as the source of the security breach? I'm not an IT expert but this sounds extremely strange. You bank shouldn't have access to this level of information on third party sites. You have to be realistic about these things.

Hey there! That's a serious allegation (one that results in me being phoned in the middle of the night to make sure that it's okay).
Our company and employees never see your credit card information. It's handled by our payment providers, who are very large PCI-compliant international companies (Paypal and Stripe). They each handle billions of dollars of transactions and have very strict rules about how they handle people's information. Those PCI-compliance rules I mentioned are serious business are and are designed to keep your information safe. They're the reason why we don't want to store people's credit card numbers on our end and why we only trust the largest companies to do it for us. I don't know why your bank thinks that the information was stolen, but I'd recommend asking them for more information. Lead Developer. " Like the big man said, these companies are specifically used to stop this kind of thing happening. Are you sure you just don't have a virus or something? Keylogging software or something of that nature? (Not an IT expert either) |

the dude on the Phone shouldn't even have the level of information he gave u ... and as other said GGG doesn't got you're credit card infos since its handled via Paypal etc so this sounds fishy .. you should probably stop downloading keyloggers

" Banks invest considerable effort into fighting fraud, and if your credit card information is suddenly being used from a different country and for things you don't normally purchase, then they can make an educated guess that something has gone wrong and stop the card from being used. " When the information was stolen is pure speculation, however - without a confirmed breach, one can only speculate on how credit card information was accessed by an unauthorized third-party. For someone at a bank to idly assume it's related to your most recent transaction is not just total guesswork - it's an employee being wildly unprofessional and unethical. Sure, it was probably related to something that happened in the last month - maybe that was a company being the victim of a hack, maybe it was you using a system with malware installed, maybe a waiter at a restaurant took your card for a moment and used a skimmer. We just don't know - there isn't enough information available to possibly know, and for an employee to start presenting their unfounded guesses as fact raises serious concerns. If I were you I'd call the bank, ask to speak to a manager and make it abundantly clear I was unhappy about it. Today… by divine decree… your patch of Excel, begins. Последняя редакция: Sarno#0493. I understand that GGG provide 3rd party payment gateway (PayPal, paysafecard.Karma Koin).
I did a check and there is indeed a payment option that has the "save card details" on the payment page as shown: ![]() I am not sure if OP used that for payment and if the card info is saved on GGG end, definitely no harm for GGG to look into that. |
