My bank contacted me: Credit card info stolen from PoE site
" Pretty sure all that info would be saved on OP's PC, not on GGG side. |

" From security point of view, it is a big NO-NO to save card information on client browser and I seriously doubt that is the case. Otherwise that is a huge red flag. |

Banks make mistakes like this all the time. It's called "covering our ass".

Use fucking paypal and i nearly loled cause never heard of ggg storing bank infos... Just don't bloatly warn others about something before it's clarified. Such assumptions can ruin the reputation of an entire firm.
1: shut up and verify (like bugs) 2: contact ggg if true and might be fixed (not the case here) 3: if nothing done, no response erc then warn others... You just did these the other way around. No Problem, Exile Последняя редакция: TheExile777#4663. Время: 24 нояб. 2016 г., 08:57:40

Hello, OP here, thank you for the quick responses, and ironic thanks for those claiming bullshit. Why would I do that? I was told that one of the service providers with whom I had made a purchase with that card was hacked. I am certainly not and never was claiming that anyone at GGG stole or would steal information, so please excuse me if I had made that impression. The entire discussion with my bank was quick and was in German.
I called my bank back and asked for more information, and the only thing they could tell me was they had received a fax from the card processing service "Card Process", and this fax indicated that my credit card informatin which was processed by the site at which I purchased the service had probably been hacked. Now my bank, in this second conversation, stresses the word "probably". The fax, apparently, listed the last purchase made on my card (beginning of November), which was Path of Exile. The person at the bank told me that he could not say for sure if the data were hacked from Path of Exile. That is all he knows from the fax. After 1 hour of trying, I am unable to reach anyone at "Card Process". Please note that all of this is in German, so maybe I am getting a term wrong. So, to sum up, I have now learned that there is a probability of a hack (not a definitity), and that the source of the hack is only probably Path of Exile, not definately. Thank you for asking me to clarify this with my bank. I hope that helps. Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion

Pretty serious accusations from the bank considering the amount of "maybe, probably, we don't really know what's going on". Plus, who the hell uses fax in 2016 to send secure information.
I can tell you that if/when credit card info is stolen, it's often not detected right away. The last purchase done means nothing. |

I believe one of the following things happened here:
1: You have a keylogger or virus on your system. 2: The person phone-calling you wasn't from the bank, it was a fraud who probably even bluntly asked you to state your creditcard info, to (so-called) verify you were the one the info got stolen from. Not realizing you were actually giving the fraud your info yourself. 3: A combination of one and two: You have a keylogger/virus and they couldn't get to your info, but were able to see you made payments to the poe website. So they figured they would call you and bluntly asked for your creditcard info with some stupid story. Personally I think it is option one now! Goodluck! Edit: I see the OP responded under different name. In this case it's probably a keylogger and poe was simply *unrelated* your last purchase. Последняя редакция: sarannah101#2551. " You have to understand you took a completely unclear situation and made it sound as if your info was most definitely stolen from the PoE site. This is an extremely serious accusation and you made it with zero definitive information. It would be the same as me publicly announcing 'my police department contacted me: my daughter was raped with a condom used by onomastikon', while what happened was the police department called me and said onomastikon has been seen in the vicinity of the rape and is one of the possible suspects along with 20 other people and 30 other explanations for what happened. You have to be realistic about these things. Logen Ninefingers Последняя редакция: Bars#2689. Время: 24 нояб. 2016 г., 10:39:43

" Interesting update. The thing is, your thread title is very clickbait-y because it describes the whole issue as a matter of fact instead of just a mere possibility. You basically trolled Chris out of bed in the middle of the night, which is kinda funny but in a bad way. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence. Последняя редакция: Xavderion#3432. Время: 24 нояб. 2016 г., 10:51:23
