" Original D3 died as a combination of AH (easy item flipping) and the flood of bots running 24/7 to farm BiS gear to easily sell. Blizzard couldn't control bot problem so the whole D3 economy got screwed with run away inflation with bot farmed flood of gold. GGG at least is trying to keep bots out of PoE. Lately they have had some success with a bunch of account bans but it's a never ending uphill battle. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Fact: PoE has no auction house and POE WILL NEVER HAVE AN AUCTION HOUSE!
Everyone, please get that understood. No matter how much you ask for and talk up the desire to have a PoE auction house there will never be one in PoE. Now the sooner everyone clamoring for an AH comes down from their "PoE needs an auction house" high horse and talk sensibly and logically on what GGG needs to do to make the current trade system work a hell of a lot better then the sooner we can move forward on getting GGG to "fix trading". Throwing my 2 cents in again the easiest (and best imho) way to solve the "my whispers go unanswered. Where's the gd seller.. fuck this shit!" and other QQ/raging is for there to be a separate PoE Seller's Trade App (instant messaging app) for Windows and smart phones that will alert the seller when a WTB whisper is made. This will free the seller from needing to be logged into PoE 24/7 to know that some one is wanting to buy an item and also more importantly means sellers will not have to stop playing and exit a map/zone to conduct the sale because the app will be able to invite the buyer and will be linked into the seller's stash so the item can be accessed and moved into the sell window. Then once the buyer has put in the correct trade orbs/items the seller can click on the "accept trade" button to complete the transaction. All this will be done with the seller continuing to run maps/labs, be off-line doing whatever (even at work), and still respond to a buyer's WTB and make the sale. The buyer will still need to be logged into PoE to conduct the buy, and will still need to go into the seller's hideout and conduct the trade same as always. The one on one trade interaction that GGG values so highly is still preserved. By freeing the seller from having to be chained to PoE 24/7 sitting there waiting for the WTB request with this PoE Seller's Trade App the frequency of unanswered WTBs will go down dramatically, when playing PoE the seller won't need to stop playing to conduct the sale (just find a quiet place to temporarily pause playing to access the trade ap, conduct the trade, and then go back to playing). The currency from the sale will be added to the seller's stash as a new "remove only" tab. Simple and effective and will significantly reduce the WTBs that go unanswered (sorry but can't do anything about the times the seller is asleep or involved in a non-PoE activity and can't respond at all). After 5.5 years of "PoE needs an auction house" and "why not an AH" etc. and GGG being adamant on not ever coding in an AH it's time to stop the damn arguing that PoE needs an AH and start trying to influence/persuade GGG to seriously improve PoE trading in other ways. I believe a PoE trade app can accomplish this. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

" D3 didnt even had any decent "currency sinks". Yes, there was "crafting" (gambling, actually), but it consumed so much time, that you better just do speedfarm. And of course, "legal" RMT was like a magnet for bots and scammers. And ability to restore chars - for dupe abusers. IGN: MortalKombat

You can put me down in the pro auction house group. Content is gated based on the quality of your build and gear, but the drop rates are abysmal and crafting is RNG-based. Which means the majority of players never get to experience end-game content, myself included. I want an auction house so I can more easily get good gear and experience the game content I've never experienced before.
I would say that the dev manifesto linked in this thread reaches the wrong conclusion. People don't just play ARPG's to collect items. They also play to experience the game content. They want to kill bosses, try new builds, and some people even read the quest dialogs for the lore. Items are important because you can't play the entire game without them. They are necessary, but not the singular purpose of playing the game. PoE has a spectacular skill tree, and players could spend a lot of time just trying new builds with that. Trying new builds is a perfectly good reason to play the game. " PoE does have a farming problem, and the bans aren't accomplishing much. Interestingly the only effective way to address this is to remove trading altogether. The game would have to be designed around solo self-found gameplay. But doing that without completely ruining the game would mean drastic changes to drop rate, quest rewards, and crafting. Instead of RNG-based crafting, every mod would be assigned to it's own orb. You would craft exactly the item you want by throwing the right combination of orbs at it. The only quest rewards would be unique items, and the majority of uniques could be acquired by doing quests. The drop rates for everything would be increased. Would I play the game if it had the above changes? I suppose. It would be interesting to see if more or less people access the end-game, and if the same youtubers swimming in exalts and 1 million DPS builds are still the sovereign kings of PoE in that type of game. This is also why I don't currently play solo self-found. With the existing game mechanics you're just unnecessarily crippling yourself by playing solo. Why make it even harder than it is already to get good gear? I echo the same request raised before: Try a new league with a different economic model. Either add an auction house to a league, or design a league around solo self-found and make item acquisition much easier. |
