Question about gemming -- why Clarity? Wouldn't I rather use that life reservation for higher levels of Precision?

Swift Assembly
Awakened Ele Focus
Awakened Contrilled Destruction
The PoB ones are better currently IMO, but you can ruin the numbers on both and see. it will be gear dependent.

The mana isnt useless, but its generally there for the watcher's eye mods.

Not sure how you calculate your dps,but Ball lightning dps can't be calculated purely on tooltip DMG, even in pob. You need to get as many ticks as possible, maximum being 13. In order to do so, you need to increase the aoe and slow down your projectile. With the most recent aoe nerf, you need to either massively invest in aoe,or take adjacent animosity to reduce even further the projectile speed (+ %increased dmg). After some calculation, Excel sheets based, you realise you can't really get to 13 ticks without adjacent animosity. Hence why it is said to be mandatory.
Looking at top profiles on Poe ninja may be misleading. Either they know what they are doing and would do minor tweak you would not realise are important(aoe on all jewel, or even on cluster nodes) or they just don't know and have been picking up idea here and there, breaking some synergies.
But the build is good enough that you can get all content done without a perfect setup, nor 13 ticks. It is just sub optimal.
Tbh, the suggestion to replace atziri promise by dying sun is a poor suggestion as well, as the multiple projectiles don't shotgun, and the aoe bonus is not enough to have a supplementary tick. So you,re trading some dps for some qol, which may be where you want to go but is absolutely not a litteral upgrade.
I don't think this is right because most of the time bosses (e.g. Sirus) are not in melee range for 'point blank' to work with adjacent animosity. Plus in maps projectiles have to travel a lot all the time to do damage. What you said assumes that the boss does not move at all. Yes I'm aware that projectile speed is bad with ball lightning but in a non-perfect simulation environment it seems that tranquility would be more reliable and therefore better.
Also, many monsters, including some bosses have very large hitboxes allowing dying sun's extra projectiles to all hit when the projectiles have to travel a distance. When detonated at melee range, the extra projectiles converge on the target and all hit. Also doing for example a legion monolith with dying sun is definitely better.
What do you mean by "the multiple projectiles don't shotgun"? Because you get 2 extra balls with dying sun. Are you really suggesting that this is less than 15% more damage? Compared to atziri's promise, dying sun should increase damage by 200% without a helm enchant or 100% with a helm enchant.

I'm running Wrath/Zealotry/Discipline on my shield and (low level) Precision and Clarity on my wand with Blood Magic just fine.
I have the 4/4/6 nodes on the upper-left of the tree but nothing beyond that that I can spot.
