No ARPG can be challenging, just by design.

Dark Souls was challenging, you required good dodging skills. Even with excellent gear a wrong move at the wrong time will screw you.

La Mulana is challenging, and makes you think almost every room and almost REQUIRES you to write stuff down (back to those good old days of the "Notes" section in old video game manuals).



ARPG or any RPG in general can't be challenging cuz they can only do 3 things to make something hard:

- Give an enemy area denial ("Don't stand in the acid/fire")
- Make the enemy throw tons of attacks at once (what I like to call "RPG bullet hell")
- Give an enemy huge average damage or a "you'll never tank this" attack

All of them require very little common sense thinking, if the enemy's doing something bad, don't stand on/in front of it.

All of them can be no-brained by just stacking stats like life/es/resists.

That's not challenge, that's not even hard.


That's the problem, The game's trying to play itself as "difficult" and "hardcore" when the first one isn't true at all and the other is just lol.

The more proper term for PoE is "unfair". GGG wanted to make a game that's player unfriendly and can be a downright jerk at times. They succeeded on that front.

It's almost like the I Wanna Be The Guy of ARPGs, especially with scenarios like "Round corner, 20 magic skeletons hit you at once. Resurrect?" or "OMG 7 FLICKER STRIKES AT ONCE. Resurrect?"

maps at level 68 and above no longer use player level to factor in currency drop rate decrease.


Actually its not like that. It's starting from player lvl 68, you always count as lvl 68 for the purpose of currency penalty in a zone.. So 66 maps always give full currency because there's no penalty for outleveling the area by 2 levels.

but I ran out of maps with a lvl 68, so I am suppose to farm docks with penalized MF till i get lucky enough for another map, and then HOPE that map gives me decent drops? lol

I guess I am just confused, Try playing starcraft 2 sometime if you guys are so fast and talented, let me be straight to the point, im sick of noobs wanting their fix of fast paced gaming, from a gamestyle that cant offer a challenge no matter what they do, without them just making it stupid long battles or something lol, no fast thinkings or reactions are really ever required, I am saying we just need to accept the fact RPG is not a genre meant to be challenging and make the game more re-playable, being lvl 68 not finding maps is pretty lame and boring when it makes more sense for me to just keep making new characters to farm currency at better speed, just stop trying to get your fast game fixes off an rpg and you wont be mad at my words :)
Thsi game WAS easy in the first week or 2.

Now it's so hard to get rich because everyone knows prices.

Can't get 100 orb of alts for 1 chaos anymore.

People older then 13 play FPS's? Weird, I could swear everytime I have to listen to someones mic on <Insert FPS here> it sounds like a bunch of pre-pubecent children. You're right though, aiming that joy stick and pressing the fire button is really skillful.
