Uber bosses needs more phases to prevent glass cannon builds killing them instantly
They are suppose to be a challenge but it's non-existent if you can just burst them down instantly without doing any mechanics at all. So basically dps>skills for any Uber without phases like maven. This is why so many people run eater instead of other bosses.

" I don't know what the answer is but the Uber boss fights are not great. The moment you make the fights into being hit = killed, there is no reason to build defenses. After that it is just a race to kill to avoid mechanics. It's just another facet of the game where ridiculous DPS is king and anything else is just lost potential for more DPS. That's a bit of an extreme statement, but man does it feel accurate. Phases are just a bandaid for a larger underlying problem with how they design these fights and/or defense vs. DPS balance. Thanks for all the fish!

I don't think there's a good way to do it. The bosses will be instantly "solved" no matter what GGG does. If Maven farmers couldn't skip the memory game all Maven items would get 10x more expensive lol.

I think boss phases are like any other crutch: great if you need them, ridiculous if not.
I LOVE a good multi-phase boss if it actively ups the tension and threat level and makes victory feel all the sweeter. But that's another moving target that GGG rarely if ever hit. It was great with Avarius/Innocence. Like, Jesus, what an excellent boss design he was. I think it was well done with Shavrus too. In both cases, the phases made narrative sense. I was designing a multi-phase monster years ago (for a side area in Shavronne's prison, not quite so coincidentally) but it proved too involved. Way too involved. I don't know what the original bosses of the Atlas are like, but I'm a little disappointed to hear they don't have significant phases. Are they somehow less impressive than the two I just mentioned? Despite being that deep into the endgame? If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

You need to be able to do something in the phases.
Sirus is terrible. You just wait there like a lump. Uber Elder is awesome, each phase you are achieving something. Personally I think they need bosses that limit incoming damage to like 5 million a second or less. Then you force people to deal with mechanics, but still allow gear to matter. |

" Maven does have interesting phases if you aren't instantly killing her, but unlike Shavrus or Izaro, the phases don't have "health bar gets stuck here until the boss finishes their queue of attacks". Excessive damage can instantly end each phase. Sirus gets new attacks and stronger versions of previous attacks each phase, though the between phase portion where he creates a new storm just feels like you're sitting around waiting for a cutscene to end. Exarch/Eater I think are less impressive in this regard. They have attacks during which they can't be hurt and you have to deal with their mechanic (rolling meteors/inescapable doom), but they aren't really "phases". Except that I think during the Uber fights the first use of this mechanic attack isn't skippable with excessive daamge. The main complaint of this thread isn't that they don't have significant phases, it's that excessive damage can skip those phases even in the uber fights. |

Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
I mean I agree with If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

70% dmg reduction and spaming degen shit all over the arena isnt enough to you?
Hmmm I wonder what would players are supposed to do in order to avoid this.. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Once you break the cycle of fear no angels or demons can whisper you their sweet nothing words. poe0.2/10. Nuff said. |

Nope, I've always advocated that invulnerability phases are bullshit and you must be able to skip them with enough damage. Besides, the characters with insane DPS are usually 2-3k shmucks who can't handle normal mapping so there is definitely a trade off. I watched a guy on twitch several days ago - all he did was buying invitations and doing them. This, to me, is not a fun gameplay but if he likes it - why not?
