It's time for GGG to take back reigns of trade for the sake of the game

This can happen but unlike in Dota where you can transfer hero items from acc to acc, here mtx are acc bound so it's not as appealing to do something like that.

Also acc swapping is something Steam (Dota) detects very well.

I was more referring to D3 where you can buy high level accounts.

at this point GGG should just make mirror services a blanket tos violation.

hyperbole aside,

RMT makes games worse. Think of all the times Chris Wilson said that any Quality of life changes would make players value the game less. They wouldn't feel the weight or whatever. They couldn't experience the joy of chaos exalt slamming items for the chance of a good outcome. Or even that Chaos orbs are divine shards.

Time to own up and be consistent. This issue may need an entire manifesto about 3rd party communities and their role in the game.

People buying and selling in game items for money is never ok and is illegal in many countries.

Other developers have really cracked down on this stuff.

Yeah, that's the main issue to me. Not only does RMT undermine GGGs trade-philosophy. The more annoying they make trading, the more appealing RMT gets.

Honestly it's just the fact that I'll literally never afford a MB without RMT or quitting my job that bothers me.

When the supply is so low and RMT is possible, it's chase items that really get caught in the cross-fire.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but if people couldn't buy 1 for $100 or whatever they cost, maybe they would be obtainable to trade for.
In my personal opinion, gx3 is highly hypocritical. They don't want trade to be easily and reliable, but they refuse to make an option for people that want to play the game and acquire stuff in a timely manner that doesn't require doing thousands of invitations to get the rarer items. They force us to rely on trade and waste of time under the guidance of "difficulty". They want the game to be about difficulty and skill, not trade focused, but they do nothing to balance the game towards balanced difficulty. Ruthless is a prime example, taking more time to do the same content isn't difficult, it's just time consuming.

I firmly believe AH would solve a lot of problems, but i also believe that balancing the game around SSF instead of trade would solve issues with far less effort. Make a candy difficulty league as well while we are at it for people that don't have that much time. If "it'll get boring too fast" is the only argument, they can just switch to Normal league or Ruthless league. What's important is that the game is fun, not just a bald man's wet dream with a myriad of problems for the people that actually play it.

Currently Mageblood on certain sites are 30.00 or so. Yet in game, that would constitute 100s of hours gaming. I could work for 30 minutes at my job and buy one, or I can waste 100s of hours in front of a computer and get one. When you think of it that way, it is hard to pass up the 30.00 option. On the flip side, buying your gear with RL cash pretty much guts the whole reason to play this game. It also takes money you could spend on MTX and dumps it into a cheaters pocket.

I honestly think they should have a polar opposite mode to Ruthless. Make a mode that all account bound items, and turn up the loot to 100. For those of us who like to touch grass and see our families, it would be a welcomed change. I personally hate trade league, and if I could just play by myself without the slog that PoE is, I would be super happy with this game. The only reason I do trade league is because I can snipe items while I work to make divines to buy gear with. I would love to not have to do that.

You hit the nail on the head. This game isn't difficult or complex, it is just time consuming, full stop. Everything takes so much time because it is all bloat. Items dropping in mass, but 0.0000000001% are worth picking up. 90% of the skill tree is pure bloat, but we need to pick it to get to the good nodes. Crafting is pure RNG, and the only way to craft is to rely on items dropping, which again is mostly bloat.

This game is a bloated whale waiting to be harpooned. The first competitor that can address these issues will sink this bloat beast back to its niche.

I think the argument is that you want to try a build that requires a specific item. Now you can play another build for 300 hours to acquire currency to buy said item even though you don't really want to do that, or you can work 30 minutes at your job.

However, having RMTed in other games, I nearly instantly lose interest in a game when I turn it from 'earn this' to 'just buy it'. It removes any future incentive to work toward a game goal because you can just buy 300 divine and do whatever in a few minutes.

I don't see how GGG fixes this problem without something like your account bound solution.

I would 100% pay $15 a month for the game with
-SSF
-Go back to deterministic crafting
-Reduce rare drops by 10x, but make drops useful and worth considering (no more +2 hp per second, or 6 dex, on items dropped by endgame bosses)
-Making farm chase uniques achievable in maybe 20 hours or so, more like Oni-Goroshi than current mageblood

Holy fucking fuck. I'm stunned. I feel like I've been playing this game in parallel universe the whole time.

edit:
Post removed by mods in the meantime.

TLDR
-He started playing in Legion, started selling currency in Metamorph. Since then he made ~500$ per league playing casually. Got ban at some point. Got unbanned after a while. Financed his living while being on college during covid.
-He explained how it works, prices, stages of the league and so on
-There's FB group for sellers that develop various strats to avoid being detected. He didn't want to go into details about that (not to ruin it for them).
Kinda hypocritical as he states that RMT is bad thing.
-There are farms of RMTers
-People started companies that employ people just to grind Heist all day long and similar
-There's shitton of money involved
-GGG is actively fighting this and as I understood there was a ban wave just recently
-sellers look at bans as "taxing" on their profits. They don't bat an eye, just make another acc and continue.

When you read comments where people give more insight it's kinda depressing.

Just freakin' hardware ban them all. MAC address, motherboard ID, everything. At least make them go through heaps of trouble if they want to play on another account.

Why do you think they don't? GGG has all the tools to stop, or at least significantly mitigate, this situation. You dont think they could have someone dedicated at GGG to perform Google searchs, go to Facebook, monitor global chats or DM's for a very short time, review reports from the players, or check outliers in the game logs? Its not like RMT is a hard thing to find, or identify, at all.

So if we Occam's Razor this, what conclusion do you come to?

From what I can tell GGG, imo, is picking winners and losers in the RMT space because they have interst in the winners and loser. That's all I will say, because I dont have evidence (and even if I did what would it matter given their history)

People are just naive to what's happening.

If there was an easy answer, RMT wouldn't be a problem in any game. The methods available run a high risk of false positives and potentially harming someone who had no idea they were trading for an item that was RMT'd at some point. Furthermore, I think it would be hard to staff a team large enough to have a lasting and noticeable impact. Companies much larger than GGG have not found a good answer.

As for banning hardware, you can bot on virtual machines which are easy to trash and rebuild in mass.

And before anyone chimes in with GGG having a silent hand in RMT, I don't buy into the tinfoil hat guilt by association stuff that attempts to indict GGG without any hard evidence of the sort.
Thanks for all the fish!
