FIX FOR FREEZES and LAG

I had 30-40 crashes and frezes per day, last few days made same adjustments with POE2 folder in user/appdata/roaming - disabled windows antivirus scaning folder, and after that i had ZERO crashes last 3 days!!!

1. Click on Shield of Microsoft Defense

2. Virus tread Detection -> Manage Settings

3. Scroll to the bottom --> Exclusions -->Add Exclusion

4. Add Exclusion --> Folder

5. Navigate c:\Users\xxxxxxxx

xxxxxxx - is you user

6. Click on the address bar and add \appdata and hit Enter

So in the bar should be c:\Users\xxxxxxxx\appdata

7. Get into Roaming Folder

8. Get in to Path of exile 2 folder and choose that folder

I think the game is building shaders or something when enter game or level, and antivirus start scan and locks up the computer!

I hope more people get resolved by this!!

I support you, bro! I'm trying to get people to understand that this is a working method if done correctly.

8 hours says nothing. I got a full week, over 100 hours between crashes on 24h2. 9800x3d 4080 super. "I've fixed it by swapping to xxx" is probably in most cases pure copium

There are three options:

1) Try it and say "thank you, it helped!"
2) Try it and say "it doesn't work"
3) Write your pessimistic thoughts in the thread...

And windows defender is crashing the guy on linux having this issue because...?

Posted this in the other thread as well, but would be curious if it works for people:

For those who are having the issue where your PC hard freezes during loading screens, either this tool or the manual workaround (setting the process affinity of PoE) might help: https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher/

This one works for me!

Every 20 pages in this thread someone posts this.

Tried it every single time, hoping this time would be different. Never changed a thing for me. Still crashes like always....

Also tried adding multiple other shader folders to the Exclusion list:
- program files > steam > steamapps > shadercache
- user > appdata > local > D3DSCache
- user > appdata > local > NVIDIA > GLCache
- user > appdata > locallow > NVIDIA > PerDriverVersion

nothing seems to work

I understood that the problem on Windows and Linux is 100% the same, and now you will explain why?

Okay, I think I found an actual fix. So setting the affinity of PoE to disable the first two cores will prevent your computer freezing, but PoE still gets stuck in a loop at 100% CPU without being able to make progress. When this happens, you can set the priority of PoE to realtime and whatever it's waiting on is then able to get scheduled and PoE unfreezes. You should then change it back to normal priority when the loading screen si done.

The new version of PoEUncrasher detects PoE freezing, and then does this to unfreeze it, resetting it after the loading screen automatically. The new version is up at https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher/releases/tag/v1.2.0. Note that you will need to run the program as an administrator for the unfreeze feature to work. If you don't run it as an administrator, it'll say it's setting it to realtime but Windows will actually set it to High and PoE won't unfreeze.

Hopefully this works for others!

Your tool saved my PC from crashing so many times, can't thank you enough, others should give this a go.

Has anyone else tried this? Seems like a possibility tbh

So why do you think the problem on Linux and Windows is caused by the same reasons? Hypothetically, anything could lead to freezing...
Ok yeah maybe there is no issue and we just all coincidently had the random accidental freeze caused by anything. Maybe it was the wind /s
