I hate the new Ascendancy mechanic
Agree it's time consuming and annoying even with a build that can smash thru it you still waste time doing it. It's weird, Poe1 lab was kinda fun (annoying but fun) and you didn't have to waste so much time doing it.

I've tried so many times as a titan to complete my last ascendancy and I think I officially have given up until something changes or I become completely immortal. The combination of build breaking mods available with absolutely no upsides is just too punishing and something needs to change.

Just for reference. I had around 50% or more honor resist and 40% increased maximum honour from relics. IIRC it was around 3800 or 3900 max honour. It has been a few days since I uninstalled so my memory is a little foggy.
I did farm up some good relics after failing my 3rd ascendancy my first time. The second try was going swimmingly well until the 3rd floor first room where I had to take a random affliction which is how I got the -40% damage mod. I still made it to the 3rd floor boss, the scorpion thing. Odds were stacked against me. I had only like 1200-1400 honour or so by then, no knowledge of the boss mechanics, and the 40 percent less damage. I got my butt kicked. It was not even close. My opinion has not changed. I still feel hurt by this moment. My DPS was respectable, somewhere around 10k Tempest Flurry with buffs, and leveled into my 70s, clearing tier 4 waystones no problem. For me to come back I would like to see these mechanics changed completely or tuned greatly for the ascendancy portion specifically. At minimum reduce the debuffs by half and monster buffs by half when trying for Ascendancy points. Leave the challenge for the masochists who like that junk. While we are here, I also stand with the community on the one chance per waystone thing. Its dumb and also does not feel good at all. For now, this is where my time with POE2 ends. I realize it is early access. I want to keep supporting this game. I bought the Karui Elemancer Supporter pack and Ogham Supporter packs this year. Hopefully this is not just a waste of time and someone at GGG is reading and listening. |

" See that's the problem. You just rewarded GGG for doing this. If people quit buying things until they stopped outright abusing their players things would get fixed very quickly. As far as they're concerned this is a perfect situation for them. You're paying them without even taking server resources to play the game. |

Theres always POE1. The Settlers of Kalgur league was peak. I just won't buy anymore POE2 specific supporter packs or play the game.

I fully agree with your assessment. I'm struggling to get my SECOND done with this warrior even though I start off with a TON of "honor" (what a joke mechanic), but it's worse. EVERYTHING in this game is RNG, and it completely destroys the experience. If you have to base your game around RNG, you are failing as a developer. Just saying...

I 1000% agree. I have now failed the 3rd ascendancy 15 times. I blast through all the floors and then get absolutely destroyed by the final boss. I am sitting at ~85% evasion, 15% block, all res capped Monk. I don't die to losing honor. The whole thing takes WAY too long to do. Especially when you're getting all the way to the final boss every time. This is absolute horse shit and I am close to calling it quits. GGG, you took a masterpiece like PoE1, did some great things to make PoE2 but Jesus H Christ did you make some really STUPID decisions! Do better.

+1 OP
The Ascendencies should be at a fixed tier with a limit on difficulty. As it is now, the 3rd point can be up to level 69 (I am finding Barayas at that level) and ditto for the 4th point. This with the RNG handicaps imposed by the trials, means that most characters might only get their 3rd points at the end of endgame and most will never get their 4th one due to bad luck. The Trials are meant to be tests of character build, but the first thing they do is nerf the player's build? And with mechanics like Honour in place, there is no other way to mitigate that but to resort to trade. The trials are hideously over-tuned. Especially the 3rd and 4th points. |

I like the new trials. It's far more interesting than the labyrinth but I am sad to see so many others have trouble with it. I would like to see some footage of the players who are having trouble with it, maybe they are missing something fundamental.

Hot take incoming: I don't mind the choice of mechanics for ascendancy -- at least on paper.
From my limited PoV Sanctum [Sekhemas] favors fast builds that are ranged and have decent crowd control and/or damage. Slow melee types that are used to tanking will have to re-educate themselves. With Ultimatum [Trial of Chaos] it seems better suited to mega-tanks OR ranged builds with good CC and damage projection. Given that we ascend four times I think there would be nice symmetry if there were four different types of ascendancy trials. **************************** As for both Sanctum & Ultimatum I would fine tune some things about them though: 1. Once you find your 3rd or 4th keys you can try to ascend. IF you fail a trial then a quest opens up where you can deterministically farm a new key so you can try again. Limitations on the quest to prevent abuse may be warranted. 2. Similar to how PoE1 handles the first Eater of Worlds / Searing Exarch quest line I would tune down difficulty of the trials IF you haven't gotten your ascension yet. Whether that means lower monster level, reduced effect of afflictions / debuffs / etc., having an entirely different pool of debuffs, whatever I would tone the mechanic down for people looking to ascend. 3. In Sanctum part of the strategy is to plan your path through each floor so you minimize bad afflictions and maximize future rewards. I'd like to see the devs look into Ultimatum and if they can give the players more control over their own fate. |
