"Demon of Atzoatl" - lore interpretation?
Doryani opens his fight with this line:
" The obvious interpretation is that he's referencing PoE 1 where, should the player choose to interact with the Incursion mechanic, the Exile was relentlessly raiding the Temple of Atzoatl, killing Vaal by the thousands. This obviously didn't escape Doryani's attention. But that Exile is a different person, different time. Why would Doryani refer to the PoE 2 Exile in this way? Is there a lore connection I'm not aware of? Is this GGG somehow paving way for Incursion to come to PoE 2? Alternatively, Doryani is so powerful, he's able to look past the fourth wall. We are in the past when confronting Doryani and killed hundreds of Vaal (in the past, PoE2 campaign) while approaching his sanctuary. So he knows a really powerful adversary is coming.
With "the" he does not mean we are the same Exile from Atzoatl but more like a generalisation of a group of powerful Exiles like the english word for "you" has two meanings. It can mean you personally or YOU asa group of individuals. Also PoE 2 as of right now plays in two timelines. The campaign or more accurate the setting up to endgame is 20 years after the Dominus arc but the endgame is the past, like a prequel of the original (campaign) story. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore "A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body." Only usable with Ethanol Flasks Последняя редакция: gandhar0#5532. " We killed them in Utzaal and Aggorath. But Atzoatl, which Doryani speaks of, is a different place entirely, and does not feature in PoE 2 at all (yet). So this could simply be a mistake in writing, too. |

" Simplest explanation is that Doryani has no clue it was a different exile. He assumed by default that we are same menace that invaded Atzoatl. |

" There were few survivors from the Temple of Atzoatl to describe the attacking exile. Basically, if they got within the sight of the exile they exploded in one form or another in seconds. |

Could be hes referring to Alva? She was the one opening the time portals letting us enter the temple.
"Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

" The thought crossed my mind but I discarded this as a possibility for these reasons: - He says this line specifically when the Exile arrives on the scene. - He refers to Alva as "one of my own" and that he doesn't want to harm her. I don't get the feeling that he's blaming her for anything. - He doesn't know who was sending the Exile back in time. (Alva does not assist during time incursions.) That being said, he might suspect that someone of Vaal blood was involved due to the nature of the ritual. |

" Ya, you're right. Checked his voice lines and during his flame thrower attack he calls us the demon directly. "Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

" I mean there is one absolutely obvious solution to this ;) Incursion mechanic will also be in poe2 and we will raid that temple like the loot pinata it is. or maybe doryani is a racist jerk and for him all outlanders are demons from atzoatl (which may be border temple :P) Current Build: Penance Brand God build?! https://pobb.in/bO32dZtLjji5 Последняя редакция: tsunamikun#0433. So this is just kind of my two cents....
Right now, we have 3 unfinished and unknown acts. At the end of act 2, we are headed to the Kingdom of the vaal to learn more about corruption, etc etc etc. 3/4 the way through act 3 when we unlock the portal to the past is when the game itself starts getting wonky with traveling and waypoints and all sorts of BS that causes us all headaches when trying to move around a3. My guess is that somewhere around that time the developers patched in the "endgame" onto the end of a3 just so they could release and have a segue into maps and the cleansing of corruption to restore wraeclast. but what if, either at the end of a3 we don't go to the black chambers or anything like that. What if in a3 (or even a4) we indeed go to Atzoatl. His voice lines would make much more sense that way than trying to make some connection to poe1. Depending on how they do it, it could also clear up some of the nasty time-travel bugs and inconsistencies. |
