PoE2 is gatcha for sadists

Pain-to-play =-)
I have 2 friends who admitted to using RMT. More than once. Never got caught.
Funny enough, both have quit this season after the first 2-3 weeks.

This game is essentially just Path of Exile 1 rebranded as PoE 2—a move clearly aimed at drawing in "fresh blood" for their bot-driven economy.

Third-party markets like TFT are here to stay, just as D2JSP was for Diablo II. Nothing has changed.

Since the game is "free to play," its true purpose is to cater to whales and RMT sellers.

You're either in, or you're not. (And you're not.)

Don’t play the game. Vote with your wallet. Let it die, just like the original already was.

GGG and Tencent care only about money, which they rake in through three main sources (not even counting the massive payday from the early access key cash grab):

• Supporter whales

• RMT through third-party sellers

• Well-meaning players who take the marketing at face value, buy the EA pass, some cosmetics, and maybe a support pack—hoping the game will eventually change (it won’t)

You can bet they have their tentacles in every part of the revenue stream.

Just like Path of Building and all the number crunching needed to build or break a character, they expect the same obsessive commitment to markets and complex crafting systems—all carefully designed to exploit your frustration and trigger gambling behavior.

Ever wonder why drops were removed at the start of patch 0.2.0? Ask yourself: when are people most likely to spend money on third-party RMT? notice how the cost of gear on the trade site remained more or less the same yet currency was way too scarce to meet the prices? It's gatekeeping on multiple levels. Price fixers, crafters, snipe bots, rmt sellers, its everywhere.

Stop playing their game—and start asking the real business questions.

It was sooo painfully obvious what was doing in the start of this league.
Don't worry, day one like a million Div up for offer on tencent owned websites. Weird .

The fact that the game was so drenched in gatcha mechanics that they paid the money to get items.... and then quit anyway is crazy. Do you think they would have stayed if the grind for good gear and playing fun content wasn't so abysmal?

I think you mean masochists lol. Unfortunately, we players are the only people suffering.

Yes both would of played longer. 1 person likes to rotate but 1 of my friends has been playing with me since the days of diablo 2. he didnt wait for the improved patch, just quit with all the dogshit loot drop and changes. I'm almost there myself, the league is dead and no one is responding to trades. For a game that relies heavily on trade, the less people that play, the worse off everyone is.
They will add new mechanics with less randomness in the future for sure, but it will always be gated behind some "annoying" time-sink mechanics. Like farming Omens and Great Essences, which dropping the one you are looking for is a "gatcha" system in itself.

In order to make their short development cycle to work well, they need time-sink mechanics related to RNG. Without them, their new content wouldn't last much and new leagues would feel lacking.

It might be sad, but that is how business on PVE game-as-service works. They can reduce a little that aspect, but it will always be there in some "still annyoing" degree.

In my country, we say something like "don't buy a ticket for the wrong movie" in cases like this. That means that before investing time in this kind of game, people should know what they are really going into.

If you aren't willing to spend hours of your time grinding, don't even invest time in endgame. Stop after the campaign and go back to some non-live-service game. For your own good.

Yup. the more you look, you can start to piece together that almost everything behind POE2 and the mechanics are about generating revenue via RMT.

Patch updates/exploit fixes, in game mechanics, all of it. The game is p2w masquerading as a free to play next generation arpg.

the fact that in 2025 we are still using MTX to be able to even "trade" items in game is ridiculous.

I met a guy who had no idea how to map, with a full LS build and insane amount of Chance orbs and Divines lol.

He screen shared his stash as I was teaching him how he can mass identify with Doriyani. He was shook that he did not need to use scrolls. Probably didn't even play campaign. Haha.

I am pretty much at the same boat. Game is increasingly pushing me there to sipe my card.

But Switch 2 is near, and I think I'll regain my sanity soon.
