Leagues should be "Events" and Standard should be the focus for building characters

How does the idea i proposed split the player base - lets start there.

He's responding to my proposal for concurrent release.

I think a 2 week compromise is adequate. Players widely accept trade is 'dead' by then and anyone going in to rush content will have gotten their fix. Standard users will only have to wait 2weeks instead of 5 months to see the novel updates and whenever the league officially ends, the devs can adjust whatever pieces they want prior to the next league commencing.

it's not about you and this thread i'm sorry, it's just about him and his desire to have new leagues stuff in standard. sorry again.

so game should be balanced around standard now? how would that even work with OP/broken legacy items? you ok with letting those go?

They specifically referenced recombinator as a case where that isn't true. Recombinators going through their separate league allowed them to be bug fixed and balanced (even if not enough haha) before they got into standard. Because those are crafting methods, if they had been added to standard immediately, they would have been used to craft even more insane items that shouldn't have been possible that you then don't have a real lever to nerf. They referenced Harvest too as a case where they failed to consider it enough and it had huge consequences in standard. If the borrowed power that got added was just like new extra strong uniques, then sure, you could just retune those as necessary for Standard. Though then you'd be nerfing it inside the league to balance power that isn't available in the league and the league no longer has the same level of power or incentive to play.

Overall, I'm glad they have the system they have and don't appear to be interested in changing it; and if that makes me selfish then so be it.



To Op: I did misread intentions here initially. I'm still not sold. Especially on PvP which is always an extremely hard no for me in this game. I'm sure some people would enjoy it, though the complete failure of PvP in 1 makes me think it's likely the same here and people think they want it but it's too impossible to balance to actually be good.

Outside of the PvP suggestion, it sounds like your suggestion is basically account bound items. They've discussed it several times in the past and overall, their stance still seems to be that this is a trade-based games so items need to be tradable and have value; so account or character bound items are extremely rare. It also makes it so that if you haven't played Standard previously it becomes literally impossible to climb to the upper echelons because legacy items would be completely untradeable (instead of just extremely prohibitively expensive). So I doubt that's ever happening.

Other than that, Standard kind of does function that way? People that like permanent progression do collect power from leagues, either by playing the leagues themselves and transferring down, or waiting for the league to end, or I presume you could find someone interested that's playing and pay them to transfer items you need down. Standard is where you go to break Max ES records and Max AoE silliness, or the most insane DPS charts. Having content that requires characters similarly gear seems like it's kind of too far in the stretch goals direction when there's already uniques that 95% of players will never see and content that less than 1% will ever do.
