So 0.4.0 Released yesterday. Already bored. Game play pacing is way off.

Witnessing Count Geonor's introduction, then watching him flail around until he finally transforms and then just staying around like a dumbass until he finally drops his loot.......how is this not fun I ask you????? I can do this all day!

In GGG speak, even though they don't admit it, what they mean to say is "we contracted X number of artists and they're gone, so the zones are what they are and the mobs are what they are. We're not going to spend any more money on performance problems that were poorly / not addressed when the artists were still around, so we're just tweaking mob density and lying about it being a performance improvement." At the end of the day this is a game that overshoots its scope by the limit of its budget, and that is never going to change. It could be a quaint also-ran in terms of comparison to D2, D3, etc, but for the fact that they are still doubling down on pretending that they are something they are not. Putting things in the game that people like and then taking them away later (endless strings of nerfs, removing crafting omens, etc) are the actions of someone who thinks they are the market leader, when in fact they are always going to be lesser than Blizzard, because Blizzard has a budget GGG will never have. The reason they'll never have it is because they drive away as many new players as they gain, with the above mentioned lies, rug pulls, nerfs, etc. One can stumble into mediocrity, but after 10 years failure is a choice. " This right here is what makes a good video game. When you overshoot your budget and work with passion and you just want to make something more. When a video game turns purely corporate it loses its soul. With GGG now owned by a Tencent subsidiary and the current flop of a league they threw at us i feel like this is becoming the case here. You can see it in the tone in their interviews, it's different. You can see at how uninspired the changes are when they happen and how everything rots and stays the same and stale at things that needed to be changed long time ago like the skill tree and the gem system and the endgame. They do so because the people who got to the top of the mountain with WoW up through its first three expansions decided to cash in and retire. Their rage at GGG "copying their storyline" isn't because they're mad POE2 is a good game. It isn't a good game. They're mad at GGG aiming for their casuals who will just buy a game, play the campaign, get some loot boxes, and quit (the cash cows). If there's a scrappy startup looking to dethrone them both, now's the time. | |

It was fun. I really had so much fun in 0.1. I never touched PoE before, but this is the first game I fell in love with after playing it for just a few hours.
0.2 was a disaster, but still, they will learn from their mistakes and hopefully not repeat the same ones very soon. I was still in the honeymoon phase and had a lot of fun with it. I was busy during 0.3, so I skipped it. 0.4 looked very promising for me. I spent all of my day off just to play this thing, and it was an absolute flop. After playing it for a while, I realized the creators of this game just don’t want players to have fun, since they removed almost every fun element from mage gameplay. I don’t want to touch any physical class, but as a mage player, I can say they treat this class like a prisoner. They decide what skills people should play and literally force players to play them the way they want. I enjoyed Lightning Warp CoC in 0.1, got nerfed. 0.2 Ice Mage, the big ice bomb clearing the entire screen was satisfying, straight up remove the mechanic. They added the new command nodes, and guess what? The only class that benefits from it is the new Sorc ascendancy. Since they removed the Frost Bomb thing from Ice Mage and turned Lightning Skel into Skel Bomber 2.0 with all those detonation mechanics, why are there so many conditions? So what now, Bloodmage Spark for the 4th time? Or Sorc Spark? Spark mana stacker? Since that’s the only skill that actually feels good to use at the moment. Sorry for all the complaining, but this just keeps getting worse. |
