So 0.4.0 Released yesterday. Already bored. Game play pacing is way off.

Game is slow AF. That's why it's probably my favourite patch so far lol.
Should probably get good at leveling if you think pacing is off. HCSSF had players already at level 80+ within 24 hours.
I wish i could properly explain why i dont like the pace of the campaign and leveling.

Everyone says slog and it really does feel like campaigning through mud.

A poe1 campaign run feels like i get so much more for the time i put in.

There is just so much less friction even if u get to maps at the same character level.

The interlude acts feel best out of any part of the campaign and they are not even the proper vision of the game.

I'd say it's mostly about how much time you spend per map. Big, maze-like maps make you stay in one zone for far longer than you do in PoE1, and in the campaign moving on to the next zone is how you feel that you're progressing through the campaign.

So, since you move zoones slower, it feels like you're progressing slower, and that makes it feel like a slog. That's why endgame feels so bad in PoE2 too, you spend so much more time per map than in PoE1.

Mostly I think they just need to reduce map sizes, and that'll help a lot. Currently you get way overleveled if you kill a lot, and that would also be fixed by reducing map sizes. Some maps, like Matlan Waterways, they should probably just completely remove altogether as well.

There's just too much time spent in limbo, awaiting progression, and not enough time spent actually progressing.

I really, really don't see a point of suffering through the campaign only to get to a meh-version of Monolith of Fate (which itself is mediocre and boring even in LE).

This!

I can handle a fairly boring campaign in PoE1, because I know the best endgame in an ARPG ever is waiting for me. An endgame where I have the freedom and agency to do whatever I want - and progress doing it.

I don't know if the fact that the campaign in PoE2 already feels like a chore is a game problem, a me problem or just how we're "trained" for 10+ years playing PoE1. Maybe it's inevitable.

All I know is that I won't touch PoE2 until it has an endgame suited for repetitive gameplay, where I have the freedom and agency to run the content I want to run. Then... Maybe I'll manage to motivate myself to run the campaign.

"Slog" is the best word I have to describe PoE2 at the moment. And sadly, it seems to be what players want.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I honestly do think that 10+ years of playing PoE has a lot to do with, because I get the feeling that most of the people like me who have little or no experience with PoE1 just don't feel the same way as y'all do.

I think it's way easier for us to engage with the game for what it is, instead of seeing it for all of the things it isn't. That's probably not so easy for you.

I don't think your time to Rust King is about the game being a slog, seems more like you just not understanding how to play other builds than lighting arrow.

Agreed

Agreed

But that would be incorrect.
I reached End Game, and the worst part was that the weak, boring, and tiring episodes were still better than End Game. The current version of the game is a disaster. It's a shame. I was hoping for a Christmas with PoE 2, but I won't be able to play it. A lot of my friends have already dropped out.
I agree, i said in a post before, i played poe1 due to poe2 and the difference is night and day. Poe1 is fun, Poe2 has fun moments too but it feels like a chore. Super draggy campaign, no freedom in terms of builds due to their gem system, and the endgame is just endless mapping with no sense of progression or goals.
Poe2 is super popular rn but i think unless they do dramatic changes its a matter of time until people become more and more burned out.
