Fixing Hailrake
" A big part of the draw for me is that the game isn't "welcoming". Things try to kill you, and often have a fairly good chance of succeeding. Endgame, there will still be things that can nearly insta-gib you, even with great gear on. I like that. The first time Hailrape hit me with that Ice Spear, I smiled and thought "Oh, THIS is how it's gonna be. Okay. Yeah, you're dead when I come back." I mean no offense when I say this, but your wife wanting to quit that early says less about the difficulty of the game and more about her low tolerance for frustration. I mean, yes, the game can be challenging (even early on), but the solution isn't to make it less challenging. Instead, the players need to step up their game. I know the rare you're talking about, and I've beaten it using every available class. Given how early in the game the enemy appears, me beating it wasn't due to my skill point allocation, as I didn't have many skill points at that time, on any of the characters. Instead of asking GGG to nerf things, see if you can get your wife to play smarter. |

I think its GREAT to have a newplayerskiller soon.
It's better in level 1-2 than in level 25-30. This way, you learn there will be monsters OVER at any moment, and you start to play with scare and more carefully. If hardcore, better to restart at level 1-2-3 than at level 50. IGN: Gonorreitor

First time I have seen this thread, It reminded me of how scary Hailrake was a couple of months back.

Just wanted to clarify - I don't think Hailrake needs a nerf. The suggestions in my original post are simply to alert new players of a very dangerous enemy that's nearby that they won't be expecting at all. Maybe that lessens his difficulty a little, but it feels less cheap when you die to something you know about beforehand.
