GGG has lost it's way... another realm closes...

lul @Garena shutting down=Anything related to PoE or GGG...
U MAD?
Not a word about PoE China though. Or the incredible meat of Atlas. Or about that huge number of T-shirts for essence backers (dont remember, 20k?). GGG is doing fine.

It's really funny to read such posts from OP.
But nevertheless...

Are you aware that these are GARENA servers closing, not "GGG's Realm"?
"Outsorced", as people mentioned.

Garena is shutting down the business fast (this is weird, i'd say).
They closed their servers at CIS and stopped all the support.
Now (apparently) Garena would do the same at SEA.

What does it have to do with "GGG are stupid! PoE is dead!"?
Garena thought that they would bite a big piece of pie (money; for those who are bad with idioms), which they didn't. That's all.

Not to mention that PoE "dies" at quarterly basis.
It died when act 3.5 was announced. After it was added.
It died when act 4 was announced. After it was added.
Each league.
Now it's Labyrinth' turn.
And then act 5, yeah...
I should start collecting these threads.

Of course I know Garena is a separate company and is in no way financially linked to GGG. However, it does indicate that Garena is not making enough money running a PoE realm and therefore is shutting it down. It should be seen as a loss of players willing to buy mtx. Why is that so? Probably because the southeast Asia players are not happy with the endgame any more than players in America, Europe, or other countries. It's a well known fact that happy players are more likely to buy something than unhappy players. My last mtx was in Perandus league where Cadiro Perandus (aka the Santa Claus of Wraeclast) sought fit to offer me a Voltaxic Rift bow, Albino's Kitchen Knife, Daresso's Defience Full Dragonscale Armor, Sentari's Answer Brass Spirit Shield, plus many other great gear that will never ever drop for me while grinding (as a stated I'm shocked at the Nightmare Bascinet drop). That was a very experimental temporary league and I know that kind of riches couldn't carry over to the permanent leagues but it does go to the point that going to the opposite extreme of endgame gear starvation is not good for business either. Somewhere in the middle is the sweet spot on loot drops (more often than "once in a Blue Moon"... probably the same drop rate as leveling uniques) is what would make more players happy and more happy to financially support GGG because we get more than loot trash all the time. Ya, ya, a higher drop rate of endgame gear will wreck the economy and blah, blah, blah. Same BS as our American politicians saying if the top wealthy that run big business don't get another tax break then they will be forced to downsize and lay off employees. It's the rich elite players that have the wealth now that will scream "the PoE economy will crash" if the drop rates on quality endgame uniques are increased. Since trading is (always has been) crap in PoE then I say "PoE economy be dammed!". Starvation is killing us now so when other realms close the elites can sit on their expensive gear and all say "what the hell happened?".

I've never prognosticated on "the death of PoE". I've only flamed about GGG's lack of making the endgame "fun to play" for both elites and non-elites. It's obvious for elites it's just harder and harder challenges (hence 4 T15 bosses and The Shaper). The difficulty for GGG is to provide things we non-elites can accomplish to generate xp with our limited building skills and limited playing time. No, it does not mean watering down the difficulty to be a D3 Whimsyshire or any other walk in the park arpg (that's why I haven't replayed TL2). Keeping the content tough and challenging is very good. It's the sucky rewards for beating the difficult content where PoE fails (Merc Act 4 BoTB Dominus anyone?). The problem for GGG (which may never have a solution) is how to keep the elites from face rolling all content that the non-elites find very challenging and then get bored and quit. If GGG offered other endgame things to do that didn't require a BiS build how can GGG then keep out the elite with their BiS gear and top builds? GGG can't and thus this elite vs. non-elite schism only gets worse as elites push the build envelope and GGG scrambles to try and keep ahead of them with new challenging content.

In the end a large portion of the player base (the non-elites) is worn out from the grind, grind, and grind more that the endgame is. GGG can keep that as it is but desperately needs something else to inject fun back into the endgame (Labyrinth failed to do that). The first signs of mass player burnout is the Russian realm closing and soon Garena closing the Malaysia Realm. If act 5 doesn't offer anything new and "fun to play" for non-elites then more realms will be forced to close down as more disenfranchised players stop buying mtx.

I've never viewed GGG devs as "stupid" (they're not sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for The Great Pumpkin). More likely they are blinded by their success and fueled by what the elites want more than the non-elites. I guess if there are enough elite whales then GGG can bankroll on and Act 5 can double the Act 4 boss difficulty content challenge. But since Garena can't make PoE financially work for them then something is very wrong.

"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Dude. You're embarrassing yourself. So of all of the things to point to as to why "GGG lost its way," your logic is that because PoE couldn't keep Garena afloat by itself. Don't be ridiculous.
No offense Arrowneous but everything you said is based on speculations.
The informations we have doesn't allow us to claim anything this is between GGG and Garena partnership and only them knows ...

I'm welcoming SEA players and really glad more players are joining the main realm ..
If it was up to me i would also welcome China players and have everybody in the same boat but sadly .. well ... politic ...

About what you are thinking about Elites / non Elites or whatever how you are sorting out players there are the same amount of different attempts that there are different players you have yours, i had mine when i was still playing, everybody got a different one at all and the GGG's jobs is to satisfy the one that are common to the larger number of players while keep scaling with their vision of the game. You already know that but reading you i feel you are talking for all players that are in a supposed category that is supposed to exist.

Fact is Atlas of world got a lot of great positive feedbacks as i can see on reddit and on forum ( only got ingame feedbacks first weeks of the leagues before leaving and i don't even know one player no satisfied with it in friendlist and no they are not all " elites " some of them play casualy. ).

I wouldn't be astonished for once if Chris come with champagne claiming this is the league that has been the most played and populated along the three months duration.

I call it a success personaly it's perfect for casual play you have a real progression feeling trought Atlas and it offer a second breath to an endgame that has been abandonned for a while.
Hf :)

17 times elite. Well done!

play more endgame
Game's still within top 40 most played on Steam, which surprised me. Doesn't count those not playing on steam which I expect to be fewer at this point (I know someone will respond "egh I'd never play on Steam" thinking I care). Interestingly its peak players are about half that of Oldschool Runescape's on an average day, which isn't too bad for a game like this if you ask me. Not sure why the Russians and Chinese dictate the success of a game, FF14 is way more popular in Asia than it is in USA.

Then again if you play CS GO....

Hardly!, Valued at just under four billion, about to enter the US market and file for IPO. The more likely reason Garena unloaded PoE is how well the game fits in with their plans for the future.

Wow, I was completely misinformed. It's just that I used garena to play dota 1 for years and it slowly died out so I had this impression Garena as a whole was a lost cause. Turns out it's doing quite well. All right, thanks for the correction.
You have to be realistic about these things.
