GGG has lost it's way... another realm closes...

The reason I stopped playing PoE on Garena was the possibility that their gateway was infected with malware. You hear rumors, you wonder, but ultimately, it's not worth the risk. Given the trouble I had removing their files from my computer, I suspect I made the right decision. =^[.]^=

what is "end" game? killing the final boss? doing the highest map? lvl?
you just need to take a brake, i stoped playing PoE like year ago when all my lvl80+chars died in the same week (hc). and now i have returned and am having fun with all the changes.
umpf!

how to respond on something where you mix some personal issues and things people complain about into one kettle, connect it to some recent business decisions which were worth to be discussed separately and draw the conclusion that poe is on it's way down in popularity?

if a company like garena kicks a game it's simply not returning enough profit or ggg cancelled the deal because of missing profits from garena.

or ggg cancelled the deal because they felt powerful enough to serve the region themselves.

or ggg decided that after the china release, maintaining the chinese version needs developer's attention on a scale that makes having additional garena versions too much work.

I think there's also the bad case of popularity. Path of Exile's style of gameplay isn't as you'd expect in places in South-East Asia. Growing up and having been in both Internet Cafes here in Malaysia and Philippines. Net Cafe Gamers tend to prefer Short-Match Games like League of Legends,Defense of the Ancients or Counter Strike. That is at least to me what I think contributed to PoE's Downfall with the Garena Rights here.

Every year i read such posts. POE is dead bla, bla...And still POE becomes better every year. So tired of such ppl.
I am not a top streamer, but i also quit playing POE sometimes and come back in a couple of months happy to play it again. Everyone needs to take a pause.
BTW act 5 is coming soon. Helloooo! Anybody home? It is so fucking dead, yeah.
for the argument that people quit because they made the way to 100 more difficult.

i read some feedback where people explained they quit because they made it easier in the first place so everybody, his mother and the dog could get to 100 in no time. ggg killed having a level 100 char being a achievement those people needed to feel gratified.

that's why i always argumented that having no one ever reaching a max level would have been the best solution.

and i'm still convinced that ggg chose the worst way of handling the maxing of chars by changing the difficulty from "nearly impossible" to "pretty easy with some serious time investment and average skill" and then to "prett difficult even with serious time investment" as it kind of reduces the reputation for having a level 100 char to the current temp league.

it's the downside of them listening to the reddit crowd which complains about the endgame being too far away or too easy, probably depending on the wheather outside or similar.

Garena was on life support years ago, I'm actually surprised they're still here. ...

Hardly!, Valued at just under four billion, about to enter the US market and file for IPO. The more likely reason Garena unloaded PoE is how well the game fits in with their plans for the future.

Wow, I was completely misinformed. It's just that I used garena to play dota 1 for years and it slowly died out so I had this impression Garena as a whole was a lost cause. Turns out it's doing quite well. All right, thanks for the correction.

Hmmm... so if Garena is valued that much then either PoE is not making them money (not enough mtx) or it isn't the type of entertainment software they want to have in their portfolio. Problem is that the never say die PoE players will always post that PoE has a very healthy player base and that GGG is doing well. Same as Iron Lore after the release of Titan Quest Immortal Throne (a great arpg btw) and then less than a year later they shut down and are history. I'd hate for GGG to end up that way.

But the whole reason for Garena having realms in other Asia countries is to reduce PoE server/client latency (players are closer to the game servers Internet ping wise) and they are closed, then those in Malaysia have to go to another realm farther away. And also (correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't the Malaysia realm have PoE in their native language so just saying to those players "we welcome you to the global realm" only work for those players who know English language pretty well?

I'm trying to paint a picture of the GGG devs pushing PoE to ever higher and higher content difficulty levels to try and keep ahead of elite players at the expense of losing the 95%+ rest of the player base because we can't create anywhere close to a Build of the Week type of build with our very limited (compared to elites) playing skills and very limited time to play. If Garena Malaysia realm closure isn't due to lack of mtx as that region's player base is being disenfranchised by the way GGG is taking PoE then I'm all wet and will shut the f'ck up as I'm clueless at what the majority of players want to see for Act 5. But from reading many other threads and posts I get a feeling that a large quantity of the players are being disenfranchised and quitting. The overall tone of posts has definitely gone negative this year and it's in no small part because top players have played this arpg and milked it for all it's worth with huge time investments sinks to learn PoE game math and put in the massive time needed to get a quality item to drop. GGG is trying their best to develop new and greater content difficulty for them at the expense of losing a larger portion of non-elite players and their mtx. That's what I was reading into the Garena realm closure. I have no way to know if I'm right or wrong.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

it was a very nice single player game but they eventually messed it up in multiplayer.

their multiplayer mode was a cheat and hack fest, what eventually drove me away was their "copy protection" (imho it was a bug) when somebody moved the game to another computer. it deleted all the stuff in the chest that one could use to transfer items from player to player, lost all my spheres there because i had no backup of these files and noticed too late.

that's the big risk they took with atlas and expanding endgame. it makes (time) casual users realise that (4 times more) difference in achievements some players get by investing (4 times more) time into the game than then.

they could correct that by having more buffs and implement more diminishing returns in endgame on the price of burning out dedicated players though, i'm not sure it i would want that. i made my peace witht he fact that i can't play enough to ever see the shaper in a temp league.

According to Steam Charts, Path of Exile hit its lowest population point about two years ago, in May 2014 (6,700 concurrent players being tracked by Steam). It hasn't been that low for two entire years.

There are peaks and troughs, but the game population has averaged about 10,000 players for years now.

I imagine there could be just as many players who don't use Steam to play Path of Exile.

Sorry, but the numbers don't match up with these sort of "game is dying" posts.
How is a transfer from Garena servers to GGG servers a bad thing?
Also if u have lag in the evening night it means ur internet provider is fucked up.
I have constant connection and my ping doesnt vary according to time of day.

Stop blaming servers for your bullshit connections.

The servers arent perfect but they are decent.
