actually, I think GGG have a reason beyond just sadism.
they want us to group, so they are gradually doing everything in their power to make us group. you want to cope with elemental heavy hitters and ele-reflect? team up with guys who run Purity Of X each. you want Charges and don't want to cast them yourself - following the CoDT kill-nerf? team up with guys who have Conduit. you need curses? add a curser to your party. but.... what if I wish to play solo? what if I don't want - and don't have the "funds" - to trade for awesome gear, to get past the gear-checks who just got a lot more "gear-checkier"? what if I want to play how I want to play, instead of how GGG want me to play? " Well.. it is their game, if they want to get rid of casual users, that is their choice. I'm sure the tiny niche of hardcore players will be able to keep the servers up with their donations :D And to think all of this horse shit could be easily solved by allowing for a true casual league. Changing standard to a casual experience leaving the new leagues to do whatever vision GGG had in mind. But no, that'd be too logical. Too perfect a decision. if by "hardcore players" you mean "no-lifers that trade and group" - I agree. but you have to agree, this isn't the true definition of "hardcore". I consider myself "hardcore": a player that loves a good challenge, loves studying a game's mechanics, and theorycrafting, and lore, and fan art... but I don't no-life anymore. I can't. life, family, career. all are more important than games. and I barely trade, and try to do so fairly when I do. no rip-offs. no scams. no exploiting of newbies. " Well, no lifers and in general sad, sad people like to call themselves hardcore and indeed corrupt the definition. So rather than try and show all these sad people the difference between hardcore and a wasted life, I'd rather we define ourselves as dedicated, critical fans. This way they can keep existing in their tiny bubble of hardcoreness without bothering real people. Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.

Although I don't like any of the 3 new aura gems, the nerf to purity is not the end of the world.
People act as if purity was mandatory, which it never was. Atleast not for a solo player like myself. Maybe it was more necessary in groups?? but I can't see why... Just for try for see and for know -2013!

You don't have to sustain all the auras at once, how about adjusting your gear/skillset according to what you're trying to achieve?
