a dropdown at party creation should be able to keep the hardcore and softcore player enjoying POE.

FFA
current
30
instanced

or the like

But then the pro-FFA loot crowd would no longer be able to ninja your loot, because obviously 95% of the player base would select instanced loot. This is why they are against what is quite obviously a simple option that would help a LOT of players.

I have yet to see any proof of loot being ninja'd. You don't own it, so it can't be ninja'd from you.
Isn't it possible we can come to a compromise, a system that both sides can agree on which might possibly stop these threads from popping up and causing the community to split in half and lash back and forth at each other?

Its obvious this community is split evenly between 2 groups: One who would rather have no timers and promote a cutthroat gameplay and one who would extend timers to promote teamwork. No matter who says what, GGG has inevitably brought both sides into the game and its causing a lot of problems as imbalance and favoritism towards one particular group is simply going to piss off the other side. There's always a middle ground though, one that both can agree on. The current loot timers isn't that middle ground as its considered 'too short' for team players while the competitive side feel its too tedious and lengthy. No one is happy.

How about we improve the grouping system? Besides putting up a group and name in the group tab, we could include some extra features. What would be the first one? Loot distribution options! Do you want to promote a cutthroat feeling in your group? Turn off that loot timer. Want to promote teamwork? Lengthen that timer a little longer or make it a permanent feature in your group!

This would make both sides happy and the forums will no longer be littered with "extend/remove timers" threads. Win-win as they say.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

That is what you proclaimed. So you provide the detail and evidence as to why. That burden of proof is on you.

No Problem! You from r/atheism or something? Anyways. If you do not have to fight for gear, and it is handed to you, then (heres the tricky part) you don't have to fight for gear, which is easier then fighting for it. Get it? Fighting someone for a hotdog is harder then getting one given to you.

You feel the game should be changed to suit your needs, how is it any different then me wanting it to stay the same?
Very well said. I have witnessed numerous arguments about people that feel they are entitled to every drop that has their name on it. Although it is true for the first 5 seconds, after that it is fair game. I feel it comes down to how many of the players these days have been poisoned by mainstream games such as diablo 3 and WoW, where the loot system pretty much guarantees them items. I specifically remember being called poisonous to the community in global chat because I gave my opinion that no loot is guaranteed to anyone and it is a FFA loot system.

People these days have such an overwhelming sense of entitlement in regards to what they "deserve" in a game and it is causing major issues within the gaming community. Should the loot system change it would just be another way to cater to the casual gamer's who want to receive reward without work and risk. Regardless, should the loot system change, it will take another unique aspect of ARPG games (modern day ARPG's, anyways) away from the game. The loot system is perfect as is, please stop trying to make PoE another Diablo 3.
Has no one realized this loot system is a roundabout way of fixing random multiplayer games? You can tell pretty damn quickly if you're playing with an a-hole, so why would you continue? Just so you can write a bitchy post on the forums about this guy who just stole ALL your loots all night long?!

It's not an MMO, you aren't forced to play with randoms. Play with real life friends, or develop a good friends list in-game of those who do play/loot the way you like? Then you aren't trying to screw over the loot system for those of us who like to make fun of our buddies cause "I stole your portal scroll bro, lolz!"

As has been suggested before, why not just give the party leader the ability to set Loot preference for the group?

The reason this would work:

1. If you want loot to be a competetive scramble for the good stuff, like it is now, the party leader can set loot to FFA. This means no change for those of you that like the current loot system.

2. If you want a loot environment where you have time to examine items that drop for you and make space for them in your inventory, the party leader can set loot to any number of other options. For example: Individual loot drops, no timer. 10 second FFA loot delay timer. 30 second FFA loot delay timer. And so on.

*If you don't like the loot option set for the group you are in, just leave it and find a group that fits your looting preference. Or start your own group with the loot style you prefer.

The loot drop method does not have to be centered around the philosphy that this is what GGG's feels works best for the game and that many players like this system and they don't plan to change it. D3 developers tried stubborness and telling players what they should like too, it has really not worked well for them. I realize that there is a large pool of players that likes the current FFA loot system. But I hope you realize that there are also a lot of players do not like this system as evindenced by a long history of posts arguing about this very topic.

A lot of the players that don't enjoy the FFA loot system WILL move on to other games because they don't want to feel pressured, rushed or have looting be a competition. Being one second too late to loot a Unique on a couple occassions can be enough to have a player quit. It can be very frustrating for those that don't like the FFA system. Why not make the game enjoyable for both player types? The solution is simple and is stated above.

I guess I just ask that you try to see the loot system from both perspectives. There doesn't seem to be many players putting themselves in the other groups "shoes" before thrashing them for what they like or don't like.

TL;DR: Give the group leader the option to set the loot preference for the group. Both types of players can then receive loot in the manner that is preferable to them by joining the appropriate type of group. Problem solved? I think it would be :)
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul...

I think the way it is is the middle ground. A timer for some lucky dude to get loot without anyone else have a chance at it.

We could make all the ranged play together and all melee play together, that would solve the whole not being able to get to it in time. That way, ranged will be too busy running in circles to get it and then they can complain because someone didn't have mobs chasing them and got "their" loot.
