im not saying anything should be changed... the game is great as it is. but fixing some broken features - like the one discussed in this thread - would make it that much better. and yes, having to decide between public party or loot is broken since it discourages people from using public parties. dont tell me you wouldnt like to grouping up anytime with anyone without worrying about not getting any goodies? i most certainly would.
See, here is where the mix-up is at.
You think that the loot system is broken and talk as if your opinion is fact. I do not see it broken. As stated earlier in the thread by a very smart individual, if you don't like your party, go to another that you get along with.

It's like life it's not fair and that's what makes it exciting, if you want a boring carebear game where everything is fair and therefore dull/boring there are many to choose from D3.. go play them instead..

Its obvious this community is split evenly between 2 groups: One who would rather have no timers and promote a cutthroat gameplay and one who would extend timers to promote teamwork. Do you want to promote a cutthroat feeling in your group? Turn off that loot timer. Want to promote teamwork? Lengthen that timer a little longer or make it a permanent feature in your group!
This would make both sides happy and the forums will no longer be littered with "extend/remove timers" threads. Win-win as they say.
I think the way it is is the middle ground. A timer for some lucky dude to get loot without anyone else have a chance at it.
We could make all the ranged play together and all melee play together, that would solve the whole not being able to get to it in time. That way, ranged will be too busy running in circles to get it and then they can complain because someone didn't have mobs chasing them and got "their" loot.
Which begs to point out that if people were satisfied with the current timers, this board wouldn't always be constantly barraged with topics like the one you posted. No offense. :P
But what about my satisfaction? I don't think there should be a timer at all, but there is and I never said to get rid of it. I just don't think it needs to go any further in that direction. There is more then just one side unhappy right now, one has already budged and said that the timer is fine, the other demands more.

Because anti-FFA people are simply asking for the OPTION to choose the loot rules, so it would stay the same way for you.
Pro-FFA people are rejecting the idea of an option, thereby imposing their views on everyone.
Are you really saying you cannot see the difference????
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

I do not like FFA loot either.
In my opinion the group leader should be able to decide between FFA and an "even split"
loot system.

You assume that the option you want is harmless and it is not. You will have groups of people farming bosses non-stop and everyone getting their own phat loots to flood the market with. That is going to hurt the ones playing FFA that cannot get their hands on things as easily. It would create an upper/lower class situation in a game where everyone should be on the same playing field.
Having the option to "Choose" to play FFA or Easy, does not make it better. It is still changing the game.
