Map drop rate Feedback (Updated!)

The problem is there's this concept of maps with randomized tilesets and monsters to keep things fresh when you reach the "grinding" stage of the game, which is a great idea on paper, but then grinding is required to even get your foot in there, so it kind of defeats the purpose of keeping things fresh when you're still farming lunaris 90+% of the time at 75. Main thing I got from this post is that people who call themselves hardcore just love grinding same thing over and over.
Difference between maps and farming act 3 is mainly the randomization of the first. People saying getting maps or trading for maps is easy are just lucky with the rng. For some gaming industry gaming information and to just learn more about games check out

I see this has not been fixed yet. During Closed Beta I was one of the players debating very strongly for a solid way to attain maps. This game has enough randomness and farming as it is. Giving us control over what level maps we want to progress to is the only correct way to go, for endgame to stay interesting.
Maps should be about getting the best loot / getting to higher level content. Right now, maps is only about rolling optimal affixes to improve map droprates (larger groups, double boss, more rares, bigger area). Quality of the map hardly matters, since is all you care about is the need to receive more maps. And no, constantly running out of level appropriate maps (or maps all together), and going back to zones like the docks is not fun. Running maps should not be about getting more maps. It should be about testing your character at more difficult content. As of that, yes I think every first map boss (to make double boss mod not too strong) should drop an equal level map, with the chance of a lvl+1 map. That way you can carve your own progression path, depending on how strong you are (or think that you are). The only time you will run out of maps is when you get too confident and can't kill the final boss repeatedly (and are unlucky with random drops). People will have to crank up the difficulty of each map (do you play low level difficult ones, or high level easier ones?) to get better drops at a faster rate. Which is exactly what the system should promote us to do! |

" Problem is a lot of the maps are static and have static bosses, only the mods are dynamic and even then to keep getting maps its best to run certain mods so even they start to become static. I haven't done any maps in OB but as Chris said they didn't change it and Dunes maps always have the same layout, so does a few others like mountain ledge. R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

" Funny thing is back in closed beta I would go do fellshrine and dread thicket runs because I got tired of doing tier 1 maps. After awhile they are just like all other zones. R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

" That's funny, I never went back to felshrine after maps, and lack of map drops/progression made me quit the game. Starting to get the same feeling now in OB. |

" I just like variation, even if I had unlimited maps I'd still go back and do other zones from time to time. But thats also the reason I make tons of characters all the time. I'll get bored with merciless for a bit so I'll go start a new character and have fun in normal for a while before switching back to merciless. R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

" The thing is that you had an OPTION to go back rather a necessity. You can CHOSE to do maps or different acts. Edit: The more options you get the more variations you feel in game even if its just choosing what to grind. Cause right now its quite limited. Is there a post going a little more into detail about the offishul devs's intentions with the map system? Other than that dev blog that just gives a general overview of how they work? Honestly if maps are intended to remain scarce, then a large part of my interest in poe is gone. I was definitely looking forward to more randomized endgame than repetition of static areas, but if I misunderstood the intention of that system then MYBAD.
