Damage reflection is death for witches

Simply make the aura weaker for the normal monsters and have the full 20% on the boss?

Good point, but how this can help ? If you gona aoe, you still kill youself. If you try to kill adds one by one, it wont help either, because rest of mobs gona hit you while you trying to get rid of them, and still there is boss with 20% reflection.
And for high level witches with heavy single target nukes accidently hitting boss means one shot yourself. Like I did couple of times already.
The most recent patch makes reflected damage consider your armor and resistances. You can max a single element's resistances to 75% with just a few item properties or passives. That takes the effective damage reflection down to 5%.

This shouldn't be nearly as dangerous for witches now. Still, if you're spamming AoE into swarms of enemies with an aura, it's your fault if you die. Energy shield regen and tactical play make a world of difference.

So, I was trying to coax a group of squids with damage reflect away from the rest of the group. I lure them away as per standard, and box them in an icewall grid to lose them.

I subsequently watched in total horror as they kill me by getting damaged by the icewalls. Lulz.

But it is. I'll grant you that, if you build tanky, you should have no trouble surviving your own damage through reflect now, but quite frankly I see no reason why you should significantly lower the entirety of your damage output to not die to a very specific, singular monster mod.

Skipping them is still the the optimal solution. Maybe, eventually, once my defensive gear catches up, I'll fight them. Until then, it's dead zoned content every time one of these sparkles shows up.

For now, you can kill them using firestorm, just make sure they are not in your screen, you won't take damage!
I've always thought reflected damage was a terrible idea. I've never seen it done even close to adding something positive to the game. Its an odd idea to punish the player for doing what they are supposed to be doing. To make the statement that you have the freedom to build your character in many ways, and then throw reflected damage auras in there as a "just kidding, everyone has to water down their characters to have skills to deal with one type of monster affix". Its a PvP/minion balancing nightmare. And it doesn't work because of relative HP discrepancies between you and the monsters.

Please just throw it in the waste basket of ideas that didn't work out. Reflected damage just "artificially" slows the game down and makes it plain less fun.
Hm, official retraction to my latest lulz story. I tried killing myself on the Icewall and it's damage mechanic isn't quite what would allow the above scenario. I think I just got desync tentacle raped.
these auras seem far to weak now
alot of people are complaining about insta-death, but i think having a chance of insta-death in the game makes getting a high level char in hc feel like more of an achivement, making everything to easy just takes away from the game.

I've over-maxed my main elemental resistance with just 2 rings that I bought from vendors. That's hardly tanky, and they're not hogging spots for damage properties in a way that would significantly reduce my kill speed.

With just those 2 rings, I'm now free to spam away on auras.

If I may, what is your level/kill speed? Life/ES? How much time you spend on an elemental reflect blob as opposed to a tanky shield/regeneration/resistances blob?

I'll try to get a second double-fire resist at some point to see if 75% resist truly is all that is needed, but I am just curious.
