O'Fusing Orb Vendor Recipe ... where art thou?

This topic has been brought up before but the most recent posts I found on it are over a year old; so, I just wanted to see if it could be revived and possibly get a dev response to address it. (Apologies if there is a recent thread and I'm too blind to find it)

Basically...why is there no vendor recipe for fusing orbs? 6S = 7 jewelers = 1.75 fusing. Okay...great. Except, considering the ridiculous amount of orbs required to craft a 6L and the scarce drop rate of 6S items, it's grossly inadequate. (Plus...I need those jewelers orbs!)

For example, yesterday, a player did a 6L lottery and offered a large amount of exalted orbs to anyone who could 6L his weapon. He was streaming and posted progress in trade chat. I think the final quantity of fusings it took to get his 6L was over 2000. ...really? ...really. This one lottery effectively wiped out the entire market of fusings in a matter of a couple hours. Now I don't even have the OPTION of throwing away my hard earned currency trying to 6L an item because no one is selling fusings.

Considering I have personally found less than 3 stacks of fusing (~55) in about 2 months of considerable play time (6+ hours a day)...even if I spend all my other currency on fusings rather than using it to craft/buy other items I need, it would take over a year just to 6L one item with that kind of luck. That is completely unreasonable.

As I see it, one of two things needs to happen:

1. The formula for 6Ling items needs to be reworked to better match the rarity of fusing orbs. ...or it needs to be made so that the number of links can't diminish from using a fusing. i.e. once an item is 5L, using a fusing will either 6L or do nothing. At least that way I can safely progress (or at least not regress) instead of gambling with 500 fusings only to have the item end up unusable, effectively spending hundreds of hours of farming for the reward of shooting myself in the foot.

2. Fusing orbs need to be more readily available. i.e. vendor recipe (maybe 4L+ -> 1 fusing?)

I'm not asking for them to rain from the sky but the current state of this crafting aspect is way out of balance and, in my opinion, game-breaking. One of the greatest things about this game is the old school gaming feel of real, earned progress. You grind and farm to get a BiS item (or w/e) and when you finally get it, it makes a noticeable difference...and it feels good. I dig it. Having to grind for several months (literally days/weeks worth of endless clicking) just to get one single piece of complete gear so I can take one step forward...is overdoing it a bit. Knowing that my character is essentially stuck where it is until I get lucky enough to complete the item I need to progress my build makes logging into the game feel like going to work...without any promise of being paid.

Basically, I'd just like to know the dev's thoughts and reasoning behind this because it seems way out of proportion to the rest of the crafting system and is effectively ruining my game experience.

I'm not asking for a handout; I like the feeling of hard-earned progress. I'd just like to be rewarded for my time rather than punished.

Anyone out there know anything..?

6 links are optional to most builds and those that do require 6 links to preform correctly come at a great cost.

alts>jews>fuses

Even though you may have not found more then 55 fuses out in the while the ability to gain fuses also comes from other methods.

While I do think that the cost of 6 linking, or even 5 linking a 6s for that matter is exorbitant and orders of magnitude beyond "utterly rediculous", I don't think any particular change to the mechanics of linking items would be beneficial. Tweaking of numbers is as far as I would go with that.

Frankly though - I think a fusing recipie would greatly help the overall game balance, particularly with regards to selffound players. I'm TRYING MY DAMNDEST to make 2 handers and armor viable again, but most of the builds I'm coming up with are incredibly slot and link heavy, so I'm burning through fusings at an extrordinary rate trying to maintain necessary links and upgrades.

As for Goetz, 6 links might be option, but 5 links are equally obnoxious to roll, and while I can count on one hand the number of builds that fundamentally do not function with anything less than a 5 link, the number of builds that see noteworthy scaling in power (beyond what I like to call "Luxury links") with a 5 link verses a 4 link is pretty close to over 3/4rs of all archtype builds out there, and includes 100% of melee builds.

And let's be honest - Clarissa's jew/fusing ratio is criminal, and Vorichi's is only slightly better.

"6 links might be option, but 5 links are equally obnoxious to roll"

Yes indeed.

The problem I'm running into is that I'm having to use crappy gear (chest + weapon) for the 4+5Ls and I have endgame 6S gear but I can't even roll a 5L to save my life (forget 6L). This creates a bit of a catch 22 dynamic because I'm forced to farm lower level instances due to my crappy gear but the currency drop rate continually gets lower as I slowly level up. So basically, I'm stuck farming gear to vendor into alts so I can buy fusings. Most tedious.

Does my build "function" with a 4s? sure. But what keeps happening is I get a 4s on my chest piece, use it for a while to farm slightly higher instances, farm for a stack of fusing, use them all, and then my chest ends up with broken 2L or 3L which breaks my build and I'm forced to go back to the crappy gear...rinse and repeat.

It's been this way for almost 2 weeks and I've literally gotten nowhere with my gear, just keep going around in circles. To me, it feels broken. Up until this point, the progression was pretty steady and rewarding. Now all of a sudden it's just a brick wall that keeps getting higher and all I can do is beat my head against it. I just want to see the full potential of what the game has to offer...why won't you let me?!

Anyway, rants aside...I agree, all it needs is a slight adjustment to bring it into balance.

Thanks for your replies

You're doing it wrong then. I don't personally believe it's a good method to throw fusings at some item 1 stack at a time, you either have what it requires (overkill amount to mitigate potential bad luck) or you don't go for it.

Also, when you're going for your first 5L, you should just buy one. Good 5 links (belly, coil, cloak etc.) go for around 2 exalted in torment. 2 exalted might seem a lot for new players but it really isn't. Use chaos recipe, farm alts and chromes etc. and you'll have the currency to buy 2 exalteds in no time.

Once you get rolling properly, 5 linking is pretty easy actually.

Just so you know, your character is never considered to be above level 68 for the purposes of calculating diminishing returns on currency drops. In other words, zones with level 66 or higher never have diminished currency drops.
Fusing vendor recipe: Vorici.
I made ~300-400 alts in 4 hours farming with iir + iiq (not obnoxious dom/piety runs), so what's that like in fusings, 40-50? Seems like quite on okay rate to me.
I understand the frustration. Links are too rare in my opinion with the current RNG that surrounds their use.

A simple buff to their drop rate would help while keeping the long odds of them working.

Its not going to happen, but we can dream.
