I really miss solwitch

That avatar of yours isn't saying how much you like poe but rather the size of this fib

now you lost me

EDIT: really what did you mean? maybe its because its late and im going to sleep anyway after writing this, but really didnt got what you mean.

I meant you're the only one i've ever heard say that, or even anything remotely close to it.

I've been around for a long time and ran against all kinds of people. The ones I find the hardest to talk to are the ones who go to every thread they find and say "stop whining" and "just quit the game", because not just they don't present any arguments, they also don't tell you what their positions is.

This doesn't really mean anything but honestly OP i've never even seen you on here before this thread. Us oldies are doing just fine.

This is an interesting conversation, guys! Non-constructive posting is something that is being addressed in the new Forum Guidelines. These are pretty much complete now. The next phase is for me to write some material for our internal policies and talk to each member of the support team about the new guidelines and our policies around them. Once that's complete, we should be able to make the new guidelines live.

So many people, notably some of these Old Guard you refer to, seem to do nothing but make lazy, useless, noncontributing one line posts in every thread that pops up. There are people on the internet that will never understand how to have a real conversation and will defend to the death the most brazenly asinine behaviour merely because they don't want to see it. They have nothing better to do and the forum is just another type of game to them.

I think, in some cases ( especially so with long serving members of the community ), it is more being fed up or tired or just being overall exasperated from seeing the same types of arguments. It could be tempting to get tired of making the same counter argument to the same topic if you have done it a bunch of times already. I think, after a while, people get tired of repeating themselves, but feel obligated to counter when they disagree. So, they revert to less cordial or well argued points.

Obviously there are those who simply want to antagonize. Either by creating threads designed to incite angry responses, or responding to topics in a way that frustrates and annoys because it is humorous or fun for them in some way. However, I think I know who some the 'old guard' folk you are talking about. Some of them are actually quite able to form valid well thought out arguments. Have in the past as well. However, I know some who used to post the most eloquent responses don't anymore out of sheer frustration.

My hope is that when some of the more toxic elements of the forum are brought a bit 'back into line', the folks who have become quite fed up in some cases can feel more comfortable returning to the forums to have some more of the friendly, good natured conversations and debates I knew them for previously.

This is my hope as well. I've written the new guidelines with this in mind, among other things.
I could have sworn I made a post here. Ironically, one of its two subjects was how I'm never moderated.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I really miss solwitch, no one will ever capture the genius of his threads, some called him a troll, I think he was not one, and his threads certainly brought more life to GD than any other. positive life.
I can only wish him best, wherever he is.

It doesn't really help if you go that way and then post about somebody having barely more quality in threads than the monthly "PoE is dying"-->"look steamcharts" by the same person every month.

Since you throw no names just call them White knight trolls in Feedback and Gameplayhelp/Discussion.
Their only goal is to get the OP on probation. Some of them even bumped ancient threads when retroprobation was possible.

They throw one line like "GTFO l2p newb" and then add several lines to avoid probation.

There is one currently active in General Discussion. I haven't read it but from the title alone I expect hostile responses.
Yeah completely agree with all of you :D
The Old Guard definitely contributes a lot to many discussions around here.

There are people that just follow the flow, and since most people around here are already trolling, they also troll.

Once a community starts derailing as a whole, it's very hard to get on the right track due to positive feedback response: derail generates more derail.

Hopefully we can put it on the right track once again :D

SUGGESTION: what if the OP could be an active part in moderating the thread he made, by being able to delete/edit posts? He should be the most interested one in keeping it on good shape. Surely it might bring some problems, I didn't think it through yet. What is your opinion?

EDIT: I just found a thread that starts by:

Not surprising it's hard to have serious discussions around here. Please help us Bex ;)

imod is never a good idea if it goes beyond locking a thread you created.

phpbb has such addons and they are barely used because of trolling.

You create an offensive thread then receive insults and edit it to a normal thread.

Or you make sure to delete postings so somebody innocent will be insulted.

Softwareforums used that feature and people only used it to share trojans/malware/dialers and deleted all replies that were "Don't download. This thing contains xyz"

Basically imod makes it possible in a forum what photoshop does to pictures.

And the phrase Wispo wrote is the perfect example. He already knows he will be whiteknight trolled.
The thread you found already 2 people going with "L2P newb" replies.
