Vinktar's has a lot to do with CI BV being so insane atm, the other thing being the face you can crit a hundred times per minute with a blade vortex character :\

Tone down BV crit chance and add a ES penalty to Vaal Pact imo (something like 20% less ES), so that you give up some buffer for instant leech not have the cake and eat it too.

If by fine you mean a 1~4 point wonder for CI builds which make them able to regain their full ES (which is now usually over 10k), then we have a different perception of being fine.

Life builds can never compete if you balance around leeching instantly a pool of over 10k.

There is just too little to lose when it comes to Vaal Pact versus other major keystones (life regen loss isn't even that hurtful to CI because ES recharge & occultist is a thing).

Paying a chunk of your ES for added safety does however feel as a decent trade off, remember that GGG moved vaal pact way into the marauder/duelist area before when people were getting 16k es and facerolling the game.
We are in an almost same scenario now, so I expect them to either move it again or nerf ES somehow.

Not Vaal Pact or Vinktar for sure - they are not even close to what Blade Vortex does on it's own.

BV is fine pathfinder is not.

Of course it isn't. Base DPS of BV at level 20 is (for 20 stacks) 2780. For comparison, recently buffed by 70% Ice Spear has... 805. So BV is already dealing ~3,5 times as much. But that is not it.

Lets add the fact that it is physical damage, that is far easier to scale with everything (ToH, Hatred etc.) (which elemental damage cannot).
Oh, and there is poison, which is the only STACKING DOT DEBUFF (Emberwake... lolpls).
Oh, and it hits very fast, so every proc bonus is hyper effective on it.

And for all that, what are the drawbacks. Well, you have to go melee (not that you have to lock yourself in attack animation, but lets give them that...) ... like every melee build ever. :D

BV is beyond insane at this point and you know it.

This entire game is about making build that is able to do things like this.

Vaal pact IS FINE

Vaal pact has real design ideologies behind it
- allows build to design for map mod reflect with leech
- allows for having LOWER pool because normal leech rate is function of max life or ES

the problem is stupid fat dps (for example blade vortex)... still stand my stance that the nerf to life leech to 1/5th value was stupidest shit ever. damage output is easily over 5x more that it was before anyways, you need something like logarithmic scaling for leech with damage, why ever invest more than 1 'thing' in leech if investing in damage accomplishes more

if VP needs a change for es I suggest slower start of es recharge

And obviously vinktars is like the dumbest thing ever to be put into this game and was nerfed for good reason
