No, no reason to use life anywhere, it doesn't help or hurt us. We use Chaos Innoculation (no life)

Second league that I run a DO build and here are some thoughts:

Despair + Malevolence are top for damage, so these are the options for Amulet:

Impresence: free Despair, more damage
Aul's: free Malevolence, more ES
Rare amulet with reduced reservation for Malevolence: need additional mana reserve nodes.

If you can afford, get Impresence or Aul's
Otherwise you can get a rare amulet, or just run without Malevolence until you can.

Or another option that most people miss, is

As for a weapons, there are 2 options:
1h + Shield (which I personally prefer), dual 1h, or a 2h with +% DoT multiplier, +% Chaos DoT multiplier, +% increased Chaos damage

Options for a 2h weapon:
(just need +% increased Chaos damage craft). You can get more damage than the Grey Spire and also get 6 sockets.

Another way to get more damage is Spiritual Aid notable and use a bone helmet:

And you can also get more minion damage on the weapon. If you combine with the multipliers and inc chaos damage, this can get crazy

What tier of Map is cheap version able to run the furthest before upgrading it to Med or Expensive Version.

Thats why i say in the guide to use the Vorici Jeweller's method to get the correct colors, its the best way to get them. video is under the chest section

Sadly getting Aul's with the Malevolance stat makes this build go from "cheap budget" to "... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" for some players, as Aul's currently goes for around 12 Ex Q.Q

Go for the Jinxed Juju until you can get Aul's or Impresence

Yeah, was super surprised how expensive it was this league, my 3rd option would be Solstice Vigil, very comparable to Impresence

What's the defense layer of this build?

I dies too easily.
