Anyone playing Ruthless - opinions so far?

i gave up on ruthless but still had the PoE itch, so i gave it another go. I had given up because i felt as if GGG had just removed a lot from the game and added nothing. I still feel like this but what has been removed i haven't missed too much. I do miss the crafting bench somewhat but I only used it to add elemental resists to gear, what I miss more is crafting materials.

I'm not entirely sure what ruthless offers to those who aren't seeking nostalgia, other than a more minimal version of the PoE experience. I'm playing the mode because I'm not very good at the game at higher levels and never killed a killed Sirus or the Shaper nevermind any uber boss.
I'm having lots of fun playing Ruthless. I've just leveled one character. I could probably finish the storyline anytime but I'm just having fun farming act 10 areas to avoid the resistances debuff. I have 5 maps so should probably finish it up soon.

I do have a suggestion for a possible improvement. I don't see that the lack of movement skills really makes the game harder. It just makes it more boring navigating around, especially in areas like Control Blocks where one must travel a long distance to navigate through the area without movement skills.

Actually, I don't think the game is really harder (especially in the trade league). It is just much slower and reminds me of playing during the early release of PoE. It is a different feel to the game. I think Ruthless is a fun option.

When I first read the details about ruthless I immediately thought it was not the kind of gameplay for me. I gave it a go anyways just out of curiosity. I have been pleasantly surprised by how much fun I have had the last week or so in ruthless. Pushed a cold dot occultist into red maps and even managed to make the top 5 on the ladder for occultist.

The campaign is what shines the most in my opinion. The hunt for gear and support gems to become more powerful has been a lot of fun and has kept me hooked. Now that I'm into mapping, the vibe has completely changed. In order to sustain maps you have to invest all points into map drop increase and chances for the maps to be 1 tier higher. I have 35% increased in maps, 88% chance for 1 tier higher and the rest into Kirac missions. I will run a tier 12 or 13 map, and end up getting 3-4 maps that are tier 5 or tier 2. After days of this ongoing struggle to keep progressing I have lost the desire to keep trying.

The lack of supports, items and currency makes a challenge that I enjoy. The lack of being able to progress through maps feels bad.

I give it a 7 out of 10. Holding hope that one day some tweaks to map sustain will happen. Like if a tier 2 map can drop in a tier 13, then a tier 13 should be able to drop in a tier 2. Overall though it has been an enjoyable challenge and I encourage anybody to at least give it a shot. As for now I'm jumping back into the core league and leaving ruthless alone for a while.

This is a very common complaint. I really hope that GGG listens!

i like it very much. for ssf biggest problem is reroll dangerous op maps (hc is just utopia for me). maybe the whole idea is a positive, trade eventually fun. but to get a precise idea i prefer continue ssf. There is a downside of playing Ruthless, the normal Poe feels bizarro ( it was supposed to be the opposite). I am sure one know what i meant.

Happy Christmas to all.
Enjoying ruthless so far got 2 characters into early maps, sure the lack of gems and sockets is a bit tedious but I don't really mind that, as other have said the worst part is the map sustain, with nearly 50 atlas points purely in map sustain nodes and Kirac its still a huge struggle to get a stable footing in yellow maps, and unbelievably frustrating to do white maps all day just to get a couple yellow maps that end up just dropping me 3 more t1 lava lakes. If you're only gonna let me drop maps 1 tier higher then atleast put a lower cap on the drops to 1 or 2 tier lower aswell. Heck make it an atlas node that raises the lower cap of map drops, if having a set lower cap is too op.

I dont really care about the lack of movement skills as I actually prefer the slower pace, but maybe provide a long cooldown dodge or something because there's some real dumb 1 hit mechanics that you just can't do anything about otherwise.

Personally I probably wouldn't go back to normal poe after playing ruthless, so hopefully they keep it going long term.

LOL I just started and I don't know how to kill Merveil without a support gem or without any cold res ring and with white items. I guess I just need to do a lot of farming before each act boss.

You don't need either.

Obviously I can't tell if you're being facetious or not, what with text being an extremely bad place for sarcasm, so I'll take this as an earnest statement.

While cold resist can help, and will allow you to be more aggressive, phase one, you can just circle around her, gettin 1-3 hits in (depending on attack speed) between her ice eels projectile attack, and GTFO from the hail storms, cleaning adds as they appear.

In phase 2, its much the same, circle around to bait shots of her tidal wave, heal through her nova, and flee from the pillars of water. Big risk is getting slowed as exploder adds show up, which is particularly dangerious for melee (more likely to get nova slowed, hit by a wave, and less able to deal with exploders before they're next to you).

You do need some HP / ES, but the more Cold Resist you have the less total health you'd need.

Like my Shadow this league just threw cobra lashes at her until she died, getting a few melee hits in now and then. It wasn't until Oak that I had to make a change, which was add an extra life flask as he outhealed my offense badly enough that he wore me out of resources.
Overall it's good. I'm a trade player who enjoys playing as if I'm on HC, so that means lots of layers of defense and also I enjoy glass cannon solo juicing.

What I like that stands out:

1. Atlas skill tree changes that reflect the intention of Ruthless
2. Vendor recipe changes whether it's item crafting or shards from items
3. ZERO support gems through vendors
4. Nearly zero aura gems through vendors

Quick "possible reconsiderations":

1. Movement skills with much higher cooldowns and other balance changes such as travel distance.
2. Veiled items without veiled chaos orbs
3. Awakener Orb
4. Vaal side areas with balance changes. Vaal side areas in trade league are generally ignored, this content has a good opportunity to be relevant in Ruthless.

Other than that, I like it. POE was becoming extremely stale, especially with the last few league mechanics that try to replace mapping instead of having in-map content such as Syndicate, Breach, Abyss, Essence, Ultimatum, etc.

Ruthless has one major flaw. Map drops. You get to maps and you will find it very difficult to maintain yellow maps no matter how many points you have in map drop. Nothing kills someone's motivation faster than when you don't have maps to play the game.
