Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?
" Lost a 1200% juiced to the bones Copper Citadel yesterday because of a client crash at 10% on boss. Logged back in and I was dead. Not only did I lose 3 hours of farming, I also lost 8 Divine. Both of the mentioned mechanics are HORRID to the overall quality of life of the game and need to be gone. |
|
" So do you think you have the skills yourself? I did check your profile, and you have no level 100 characters. As for hardcore ones, you don't even have a single level 80 (but you have an achievement for getting 70 in hardcore so you definitely tried it). Maybe you shouldn't be talking that much about skill and trying to shut everyone up in every single XP loss on death thread, because it seems you are the one that needs to 'git gud' first (judging by your own words). |

" 80%+ are bots, look at how the low stays so high. Remember when people said lost ark had a bunch of players until they did a massive bot cull. Последняя редакция: Karishin#7986. Время: 11 янв. 2025 г., 14:03:23

People would stop complain about death penalty if their maps could give more exp. Because generally their complaint means "we need too much time to reach 100".
And we really do need way too much time. Right now breach gives a couple million exp at best because maps are way too narrow (like crypt, slick and others of this kind). So breach can't spawn many monsters. While breach on large maps can give a few times more exp. If all the maps were like Steppe (a lot of open space) the majority of the players would stop whining. But right now i am about to join them too, becasue i got killed on a level 96 by "on death" in very narrow passage between walls, where I couldn't even see monsters left their "on death". I'm not going to run away from every single group of monster I killed, to guarantee my safety, so, they actually have to get rid of narrow maps or "on death" or exp loss. They can't have all that in the same time. |

Thinking about uninstall, since I'm damn stuck at lvl 88 for last 3 days, spending all my exalt to somehow deal with that sweet "penalty"
No currency increase, no ways to improve my build apart from "Alwa gambling" Seriously, screw it |

" This isn't really an argument. "Old = bad" holds 0 merit. " This could be a better argument, but I honestly don't understand what you mean by "gamble" here. What exactly is the gamble? "Well, it punishes the player for playing the game "wrong" (whatever that means to the developers). "It's punishment for death if you have progress toward the next level. If you don't, you can't lose a level, so it effectively doesn't exist if you try a boss then. This is similar to what you might do in a Souls game. I know that probably isn't the most satisfying response, I'm simply putting the thing into perspective. But you're absolutely right that it's not a challenge. It's not meant to be. It's an obstacle. Like a speed bump. The speed bump isn't there to challenge your ability to get over it. It's literally there to slow you down. " I still just don't get what you think the gamble is. " It's actually really disingenuous to compare this to Hardcore. "Any punishment at all for death" is not equivalent to Hardcore. Losing 10% of your progress to the next level is orders of magnitude from losing your entire character. |

People haven't played Diablo 2 where you died your corpse was on the floor with all your loot and you could actually lose it all.
But I feel the pain in this thread, the thing I am mostly frustrated about is the 1 portal thing. I am quite a casual player and I don't like to do meta or can't afford it (lol). Which makes it a pain to gain enough shit to do a pinnacle boss. Because I haven't done any of it and am not gonna watch a video on it on how to beat, I enter w/o knowledge and when I die before the fight I can't learn more from that fight. I also lost all progress in this story and can farm again. It sucks, its stupid and most of all a mood killer. I play with my dad, uncle, brother and best friend and no one of us likes this new mechanic it's even becoming something we dislike and makes people stop playing for the evening. Continue this shit and they will likely never come back. I've spent a lot of hours in PoE1, had some shitty leagues but most of all the time spent with my family/friends was always worth it. But this game is way too hard to play with them, because when 1 dies he/she has to wait forever to get the humongous map to be completed. |

" Yes, some had played D2... but it was 20 years ago. Games evolved, losing loot, exp was pretty impactfull back in the day... nowadays is just nonsense. " It! The one portal thing is the most aggravating on the whole concept. We have no chance to watch, test, learn what is happening... specially on Unique/Pinnacle bosses. |

" Lol you get the award for the most hypercritical post ever. I am saying that the game mechanics are well forecast and generally easily discernible (caveat that you need a reasonable amount of play time to recognise them) so the complaints around random and unpredictable deaths are unwarranted. What does this have to do with playing hardcore? Your comment is flexing that you play hardcore and are therefore better than everyone else, talk about a sense of superiority. "Literally don't play", "been here forever" a lot of contrary statements in your post. I'll take it you meant you don't play hardcore so therefore aren't entitled to an opinion. The existence of hardcore isn't a reason to remove all challenges from the standard game (nor is it the only qualifier for having an opinion on the forum). If you're arguing that hardcore removes the need for XP penalty in standard then I would agree there's a case to be made. I don't think its a reason to trivialise on death effects though. " The one portal thing is asinine in so many ways. Like if you want to actually play multiplayer with friends. One of them dies? Well, now they're just spectating. Talk about fun! What purpose is that serving except to make this a lousy game for playing with friends? With how much effort they put into online infrastructure to support that style of play, turning around and making it work like this makes absolutely no sense at all. The whole thing just encourages overly conservative, safe, boring play. And yeah, it super punishes anyone who wants to actually go into a new boss without doing extensive research first and wants to... you know... discover the game by playing the game. I can't fathom the design process that came up with this. |
