Why are only melee punished by weapon specific skill gems?

Well based upon history channel’s Vikings you can do a lot of ‘whirling, spinning, slicing through the air’ with a one handed hatchet.

Why cant i smash the ground with an axe if i want to? Anyone who says 'because an axe wouldn't do that in real life like a mace' or implies anything like that, then i'm sorry but you're just mentally challenged. It's a game, where things are supposed to be fun and diverse and not restricted to thought processes like 'ground slam cant work with an axe because the real life surface area of an axe wouldn't impact the ground with enough to force to create a slam effect'.

I wasn't calling the developers anything. That was aimed at an earlier poster and anyone else who thinks that justifies this issue.

My actual belief is that the developers intended to probably do a similar thing for all weapon types but didn't finish it, or else why would they decide to neglect 2 handed axes completely? It probably would be quite decent if it was the same way for everything, as an earlier poster quite rightly pointed out - different types of wands and bow categories etc. But just leaving it as it is so it only effects Melee and not even in a fun way, is stupid.

it doesnt only affect melee. Everything has trade offs. But I do think some new weapon types, like one handed bows could be fun, I just wouldnt hold my breath for it. But yes, I do believe the developers made some of their choices for which skills work for which weapons because of real world implications like an axe would cut into the ground, not slam it like a blunt object would. I think that people pointing this out does not make them mentally challenged, rather, I find their line of thinking to be more in line with the development of the game than your own.

Melee’s issue in this game is not damage output but damage reduction. Melee lacks the ability to actively dodge/kite like ranged. When facing a multi-projectile rare melee has to face tank all the damage. If GGG increases the effectiveness of defense for melee they also increase it for ranged. Right now melee has to stack HP in order to survive, which gimps there DPS.

I would like to see

1.10% chaos resistance added to diamond skin skill nodes
2.A keynote that increases the effectiveness of Endurance/armor/evasion/ES while reducing projectile speed and damage.

2A. Keynote – 50% chance to Gain an endurance charge when you are a victim of a critical strike. Reduce projectile speed by 25% and damage by 20%

3.Buff the thorns item mod

Please do explain how it doesn't only effect melee. I've explained my side of it, which i'll repeat to clarify. Bow users and spell users = No skill gem restrictions on weapon type. Melee weapon users = lots of restrictions on skill gems based on weapon type. I honestly can't see how you could think otherwise?

Yes, clearly in the real world, jumping up into the air and slamming a pole with a big rock stuck on the end would create a shock wave that would stretch forward several feet and grievously wound any people I don't like who happen to be standing in front of me, but jumping into the air and slamming a pole with a big blade stuck on the end would just be a silly waste of my time.

Why the heck are you thinking on "melee weps" as a whole? A sword is a sword, an axe is an axe and a mace is a mace. They are different weapons and can do different things.
