Plea to devs to address the sexism

So is racism okay then? People should feel okay with that. It's the same thing? I'm not arguing for OP here, I am merely iterating the principle of this ideology. If you don't think there is anything wrong with it, you clearly are not aware of the struggles women previously faced that still have deep-rooted implications to the way society is today. This isn't about seeing a naked woman and being old enough to be mature about that, its the reason WHY it is there that op is questioning, rather than that of a man for instance. Why is it a woman there? Explain that to me? Is it for "sex appeal"? Is that sexism? Any feminist would say yes.

Honestly, this thread from reddit today says it all http://www.reddit.com/r/GirlGamers/comments/1q6ry3/have_any_of_you_ladies_ever_been_excited_to_play/?sort=top
The topic is basically "games that were very exciting, but so off-putting from the sexism that you had to stop." POE is the most upvoted.

To add my own 2 cents, I really like POE, and I'd love to play it with my wife. She's tried, but being FORCED to look at 2 sexualized slave girls chained to her health and mana bar makes her feel uncomfortable. I can't blame her. Is this necessary? Could there not be an option for an alternate UI for people who are uncomfortable with the girls? It would be a very small thing, and it would be a clear message from the devs saying "Yes women, we care about you too, and want your business."

I shudder to think of the money we've spent on LoL, so I sincerely doubt it would be any different for PoE. It is obvious from this thread my wife and I are not the exception. Why say no to more people wanting to spend money on this game?

Kind words are really not enough at this point. "We don't mean any offense, this is just style, it's OK" will not bring women and couples back. Only action, and obvious action specifically aimed at rectifying some of the wrongs, will even have a chance at bringing people like us back to this game.

i smell troll then again feminists cry about everything

I play this game with my girlfriend, we duo everything. When she reads forum posts like this she gets angry and offended. Why? The apparent necessity of games needing to be PC in some real way is maddening. For some reason knee-jerk reactions and validating those reactions are the favoured response over critical thinking.

Is it not possible that, given Path of Exile's narrative, that the women forced to support the health and mana orbs are a reflection of the game's narrative? Why is it somehow impossible to rationally examine a more mature aspect of a given game, why is there such a push to sanatise things that may offend someone because the things exist within the game world?

I mean this as politely as possible when I say that if this depiction makes either or both of you uncomfortable you should examine what about that outside the game causes that discomfort. I don't believe in the 'it's just a game' bullshit and that what's depicted in games doesn't matter. It does matter and it matters because games matter and they speak to us. The point about the UI is saying something, take the time to consider just what that is.

And when you grow up you'll [hopefully] realize the world isn't as simple as your bubble-wrap would have you believe.
"The problem is there ARE secure netcodes" -- Pewzor
also theres statues with their dicks showing do you see any threads from guys complaining? no we just giggle and carry on farming
And this thread is exactly why most women do not even try to voice their complaints in arenas that fester with sexist groupthink.

And so it marches on and on.

Sad, sad, sad.

Part off part on topic, but I would love UI or HUD or whatever you wanna call it micro transactions akin to the kinda thing you can get in DotA 2. Seeing as we're not allowed to change things ourselves the least GGG could do is to get us to pay for changes :D

I really like this. Please, give me an UI microtransaction that makes my ES look like it's appropriately metered out instead of "OH FUCK MY ES IS AT LESS THAN 10%" at a glance when I'm actually sitting happily at 25% or so.

That off-topic bit being said, I don't think the UI is as big of a deal as it's being made out to be. Yeah, it's still sexualization of women and all that business, but there's far worse examples of that in the majority of games that come out.
