armor vs evasion vs energy shield
" Thats the reason, likely, that armor/evasion are in the dire straits they are in. They are in the rush to get the framework up. The fix is much too complicated now to fix simply. |

Hey guys, Newb here,
Very interesting discussion. I've heard a it mentioned that evasion is useless without acro or IR, but whout about an evasion/energy shield build? Cuz I was thinking of going a claw build with CI and Ghost Reaver (the one where you leech energy shield instead of life). Anyway, this build is probably completely unviable and bad. But what about Evasion/Energy shield? |

EVA/ES hybrid using ghost reaver, you'd want to stack your ES way high. You're not going to get much benefit from the low evasion figure you will have using evasion gear, and assuming you're going to use the 3 endurance charges you can have, you will only have 15% damage reduction (flat) against physical and elemental (excluding chaos).
Basically you'll want a huge ES buffer (with decent life to mitigate chaos) that you will lose and gain while fighting (through taking damage and leeching back ES). You will still be able to use health pots to combat chaos. I'd probably look at stacking more ES armour than ES/eva hybrid. Give yourself a higher eHP pool to survive with. Maybe post your build on the builds forums and ask for help there. NB// there are much better build designers and theory crafters than myself. If they respond go with their answer instead of mine :) |

The idea was to stack mad ES, but I think you missed the part where I said I wanted to go CI. Perhaps it would be a total disaster then?

yeah i did miss that, sorry.
Don't bother with hybrid gear then. if you don't have ES AND life, then you probably won't have enough eHP to survive (i assume you don't want to die at all). Wear pure ES and you'll kick arse while you keep attacking :) stack some crit chance and multi too :) hope you have fun playing the game! |

Well an important thing about evasion is that it's not really rng but uses an entropy system, you should read how it works on the wiki: http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Evasion
Say all incoming attacks have a 25% chance to hit If you were just hit by an attack, then you are GUARANTEED to dodge the next 3 attacks, likewise if you just dodged 3 attacks, then you are GUARANTEED to be hit next attack. There's just a bit of rng on whether you would dodge the initial 0 to 3 hits. What is important about this is that you don't have to worry about getting hit consecutively by chance and losing your hardcore league to RNG horseshit. This makes evasion much safer and viable on hardcore so don't be scared by it and go IR on a ranger like I'm sure many players are. Последняя редакция: Acrominon#7468. " Even with all these things, bosses' physical attacks still ignore armor for all intensive purposes. Well, not technically ignore it, just that their physical attacks barely get mitigated due to the armor formula, well not enough to survive those hits without a huge hp pool, no matter how much armor you're stacking with granite flasks and whatnot. That's simply bad design caused by a horrific formula to calculate physical mitigation. |

" The problem is that this system actually guarantees hits while guaranteeing evasions, meaning that you can't rely on evasion as your primary form of defense without a sufficient health pool as those guaranteed hits will kill you otherwise. Evasion also suffers from the armor syndrome, of having to stack way too much of it for too small a reward, in evasion's case the evade chance is awfully small considering the amount of evasion being stacked. |

" This. I actually happen to find armor scaling formula brilliant, at the very least realistic. You WILL tank an end game boss crit with endurance charges, determination, molten shell and granite. Determination is essentially passive, quality granite with mod and molten shell have relatively long duration, endurance charges is the only tricky one. But think about it again, you are TANKING an end game melee boss crit (a lot of which are avoidable). Then there are things like physical damage immunity and taunt totem. For most other cases, INCLUDING entire screen worth of mobs rushing at you, armor is AWESOME (especially fast, low damage hitting mobs). |
