Ultimately your organization needs to hire new members who have a pvp mastermind like the people behind DOTA. Or just solicit people like myself to do your job for you...
One thing is certain though you have not attempted to do PVP at all compared to how you attempted to improve on every other aspect of diablo's action mmo style. They failed at pvp but they are blizzard, be better friends. |

I'll tell you why. World of Warcraft arena/battlegrounds sad, socially impotent, and competitively corrupt Diablo 2 -- pvp was joke Diablo 3 -- pvp was failure There are really no other action rpgs which share many of the game features of WofW and diablo. If you look for a game with pvp which plays like diablo but has mmo elements, you will not find much of anything especially not new games. This game has the potential for a pvp SYSTEM and competition better than wofw (I don't like wofw anymore either but its success is undeniable). As for the gameplay... The truth is I have not pvp'd that much in this game but I feel confident enough to say that the failure of Diablo 3's pvp was not the fault of the engine or if it was I'm sure blizzard is still to blame... All that you have to do to make pvp work in this game is play to its strengths, evolve away its weaknesses, and build it into the game as a large secondary aspect to grinding pve, grind pvp... Another thought to consider is adapting a game mode like Alterac Valley in WofW for PofE. Small parties of players (cannot support large parties) could compete against killing pve bosses with the ability to pvp as well to stop the other team from killing your boss or a neutral boss ... I've given very, VERY minimal effort into thinking of creative ways to make PofE pvp successful. I know the biggest hesitation of any developer of a pvp laddered game is satisfying community complaints about hero / ability balances ... remember WofW was wrong, by catering to players they had to change the entire dynamic of skills and heroes at times to balance things ... All that has to exist for a balanced pvp ladder is a counter for every class ... all that you need for pvp to be successful and fun is the ability to compete in pvp for useful rewards as you level your character (even better if like rift and gain exp through pvp, since you don't get currency playing normal pvp it gives players who don't need currency a fun new option for a new PofE experience). |

Since the notion of heroes running repeatedly and games ending in draw occurring ... I just had a thought of how to solve that permanently
Instead of a match ending in a draw, players fight a sudden death match on an arena which gaurantees someone will die.... I can think of many many ways of gauranteeing someone will die and they all sound awesome A small arena An open arena Flamethrowers bombs ground falls out a shrine directly in the middle which makes a player go supersayan Wait did you just say Ground Falls out? Wtf? Yes, if it was up to me I'd have the final match take place on an arena half the size (think like a boxing ring) with no walls... If the match ends in a draw then the ground falls out and both players lose |

I don't have much experience with pvp, but what I've seen and encountered in matches PoEs pvp is all about building around and against these few meta builds that will rekt everything else if you are not prepared for them - poison arrow, explosive arrow, arc mine, etc. So you are either build in mind that you will face them or you can forget about competing in ladders, skill won't save you. Sounds pretty much like diablo 2 pvp, where nothing was balanced, but PoE pretends to be balanced while it is far from it.
Also what my predeccesors already wrote in this thread is true, pvp here is gear vs gear and not skill vs skill.
